What is your one favorite element in your small, cool home? Its furniture composition and materials. The play between positive and negative space, contrast, and materials sculpt a space that's masculine, but lush; confident but serene; stimulating, but not trendy. Although small, the space feels airy and comfortable and functions really well.

What was one of the biggest challenges you faced in furnishing your small home? After getting the background right (repainting everything white, including the floors), finding the absolutely, perfect pieces of furniture proved the most difficult challenge. The furniture needed to be beautiful, functional and affordable. Several pieces are my design to assure maximum benefit. Sticking to a game plan and concept often times left no other alternative than to wait until the object was found. Besides the custom designs, the objects were found everywhere: antique shops, retail stores, online sellers, thrift shops, and the sidewalks of New York! I still keep my shopping list and swatches stuffed in my pockets.

Zebra in the kitchen? haha it works! but not sure about the odd shaped mirror, seems out of place.
Thumbs Up!
my favorite thing is the mirror!!! can i suggest you move it up a bit, though? it looks like it fell down and it's pulling everything else down in the room.
great place though, thumbs up.
I think your couch/bed/cabinet thing must be one of the custom pieces you mention. It's great!
I love your couch/bed (I assume its also your bed). Was it a custom piece? Also did you paint that Ikea cabinet (the black one)? I wanted to get one but it only came in white.
Great place.
Great home! I love your furniture and the mirror is awesome. The various textures really pull it all together.
great space! I love the chairs, what kind of chairs are those?
oops the white chairs..
I love the playfulness of the shapes, styles, and textures. And I LOVE the zebra in the kitchen.
A personal pet pieve of mine is when neutral colors don't match (the white of the chair and table vs. the wall vs. the ivory of the picture's matte, and the cream colored bureau with the bright white kitchen) but really, it's so petty of me that I feel embarrassed even mentioning it...
love the mirrors!!
I like the cool and warm tones mixed, I like the mix of furniture here its working.
Beautiful.
Beauuuuuuuutiful.
I totally love this! I want to live here. The mirror is fantastic. The cabinet in the main room - is that an IKEA painted black? If so, I would really like to know. It looks great.
I love your place! Where did you get that area rug? the color and texture work so well with your space!
For so 'masculine' a place I certainly could live there!
Very nice! Love the white chairs!
Really great job for such a small apartment, two thumbs up!
I like the mirror. I reminds me of the "STARGATE" for some reason.
Nice place. Good luck.
Beautiful place. I have this burning desire to see how you've organized the closet!
the LR capet is oh-so cool. not a fan of zebra in the kitchen though. would it be possible to put the big mirror in the corner and pull the round table out of the corner? it seems a tad awkward...
your chairs and couch are really beautiful. good job!!
yes, yes, yes
I find this apartment somewhat awkward looking and very outdated.
Great apt!! Great taste!!
Love the daybed - Please tell us more about it!
I love it! Especially the mirror. Enjoy your space, Nathan!
What a hip and sophisticated place, love it!
Is that plynyl floor? I've always liked it, but it's just so expensive. Seems so easy and chic though.
Bellissimo!
Charming- like a straightforward or sidelong smile, slightly seductive; welcoming and pleasing. An inviting feeling, a vacation, an easy inquisitiveness. An exclamation point and an ellipsis in one. A personable personality, a handshake that takes you by the hand and leads you in.
This is nice. I love the triangular-top clamped mirror.
Nothing wrong here
THIS apartment is my absolute favorite of all the entries. It's totally cool and suave; tailored and sophisticated. For being teensy, this place packs a punch of effortlessly understated style. It feels so old-skool manhattan in SUCH a good way (and definetely not outdated. pshaw!) Such a great mix of materials and tones. The sofa(bed), coffee table, dining table, chairs, mirror... everything brings something to the table, and the resulting mix is fabulous. Thumbs Up!
Little "gem". Talented design and cool furniture.
I want to see more! Thumbs up!
Damn! You've got some SERIOUS style!
Bold choices, but excellent layout.
I love your place, love the sense of style, love the New York aesthetic. Big thumbs up.
I think you went with the wrong first picture, however, with the TV the focal point of the photo. There are way more interesting things going on in your place.
Your eclectic style is supreme!!! There is so much to peak one's interest in such a small space. Nicely done!!!
This is the most stylish apartment in competition! Great pieces and placement. Well Done. I love it! Thumbs up for you!
Classy, cool and collected!
very nice.
what's up with nyc and all the madonna pics???
Can you tell me about the coffee table and where you got it?
looks like a chic Japanese hotel suite very boutique!
Gorgeous brushed aluminum (I presume) coffee table. Very elegant, understated - perfect!! Love this place!!
ive been looking for a small coffee table like that.
i saw this post several days ago and im still thinking about it.
where did you get it??
Floor, coffee table, it all works!
Your mother just told me about your site. I love interior design. I have to say you have the best taste you can come and do my home anytime.
The sofa bed is fabulous. The mirror is what sets the room. Zebra is a nice touch to the room. I love the mix of textures, now I want to know where your mother is going to sleep....LOL HAHAHA
How chic is this? Come decorate for me anytime!
The chairs throughout this space are great.
two thumbs up!!
very eclectic, i love it.
Rather than a bureau, cabinet, shelving, table or desk:
Try pull-out storage baskets under a bed, couch or chair.
Try a floor lamp.
Eat/entertain with your plate in your lap.
Try a handheld computer and clipboard.
To limit wardrobe, recombine several two-piece outfits.
One set of dishes/pans and a utensil basket are sufficient.
Store towels and cosmetic baskets on open narrow shelving over a toilet.
Replace paper, books, tv, stereo and alarm clock with a handheld computer.
