What is your favorite element of your Small & Cool home? One favorite element: shower space. When concepting the shower space for the cottage — there are two: indoor and outdoor — I had two goals: keep an open feeling (no door) and maximize the ability to see the landscape. The result? Goals achieved; the indoor shower has a beautiful window at one end that looks out on the backyard and neither shower has a door or full height walls so, even though each of the spaces are small you don't feel confined. Of course, it took me 6 months to take a shower indoors.

What was one of the biggest challenges you faced in furnishing your Small Cool home? With any small space you have to downsize the scale of everything and think creatively. As I began to think about the furnishings of the cottage I started with one main piece for each of the rooms. For example, a bed in the bedroom. Seems obvious, but the bedrooms are really just big enough for a bed and a night stand. Which leaves you with the problem: where to put your clothes? Instead of a traditional headboard I purchased a platform bed that has storage space in the form of baskets which I now use to keep my clothes in. For resources I used many design blogs, the local library for use of their design books and I pulled out my folder of 'small space' tear sheets I have collected over the years. I also had a mantra for decorating: Less IS More.

I love the chair and ottoman, where did you get it? Fabric looks ikea-ish but the wood doesn't. Or did you recover it? Please do tell :)
Ps cute bed spread also!
I really love the wooden beams throughout the home.
I love your home.
I love the porch and the outdoor shower- 2 things I always have wanted.
The artwork is great and I agree with manaynay.

OMG Love the screened in porch (or maybe it's glass) it's great!

Great place!
Can I rent it for a long vacation weekend?
This is gorgeous!!
I LOVE the marble coffee table. Where did you get that? It is so pretty and so airy.
Adorable!
Lesley I am really jealous. You have such a perfect little house in such a perfect location.
Love the green fabric on that chair!
I rented a cottage a couple of summers ago near Coast Guard Beach and I love your little town.
Do you live here full time?
Thanks for all of your comments.
The chair and ottoman were a a wedding gift to my 'second parents' 45 years ago and they gifted it to me. I had it recovered with fabric I found at Ikea (love, love, love that store).
The marble coffee table has a history too. A friend was ditching it, I loved the marble top but hated the base. Last year I found a base that was perfect. Sorry, I like it too much to part with it.
Yes, I rent the cottage. There is a group of four cottages on the property located at the base of Fort Hill. Here is the link. http://www.forthillcottages.com. The cottage is also listed on HomeAway and here is that link: http://www.homeaway.com/vacation-rental/p232528
Still looking for the paint color......
love love love
So bright and simple in the best way! Love that chair and ottoman!
Wow. Full tour, please!!!!
Just saw the additional photos in your online ad for renting...
...I love the custom open shelves in the kitchen on either side of the microwave/range hood - Very smart!
Are your counters granite or soapstone?
Looks much larger than 550! I love it.
What, no picture of the outdoor shower? I loved mine and am going to miss it terribly this summer. Something terribly freeing and a wee bit decadant about showering in the outdoors. Lovely space. Is the office considered the second bedroom?
Wish I could see the outdoor shower. You have a lovely place. I really love the porch, so jealous.
ASAP - Please get rid of the spammer "sili123."
Simple perfection.
one of my favourites so far
waaaaaaait. isn't it in the rules that people have to live here full time?
in any case, I gave it a thumbs up!
I love the simple fireplace!!! Mine is in shambles at the moment (mainly due to lack of vision in materials to rebuild with).. Care to share the materials and depth at the top?
Soooo nice - outdoor showers are great - everything very tasteful and serene
