What is your favorite element of your Small & Cool home? It's a tough call, as there are many things in our home that we love and that we're proud of. I think I would have to say that our favorite aspect of our home is our backyard. When we first moved in, it was practically a landfill with a rickety fence and a rotted deck. Now, it is an extension of our home and adds much needed square footage. It is our favorite place to entertain and relax. We even spent this past Thanksgiving around the firepit.

What was one of the biggest challenges you faced in furnishing your Small Cool home? Probably working with the style of our old rowhome. We started decorating our house with a minimalist style, but realized that it wasn't working — it felt cold and boring. We have piece by piece been adding, rearranging, and changing furnishings to make our home cozy, fun, and eclectic. We are always on the hunt for new items at flea markets, the curb, and local gems like Material Culture.

Love that kitchen!
Love the backyard! AT should consider doing an outdoor spaces contest.
i may be mistaken, but this is the first entry that included their outdoor space as a 'room' in their home. i love that. could see myself just spending hours outside entertaining or just having some quiet time. awesome!
ditto of what david @ moderndesignfan.com said too btw.
I'd like to know the blue bedroom paint color/brand! I love it!
I mean in the first bedroom pick with all the pics on the wall behind the bed!
Love it! Graduate Hospital?
I usually like the flea market look but the two styles - kitchen / rest of the apartment - did not really tie together. The kitchen is what really stood out to me - I was just like 'are you kidding me?' This is one of the best I've ever seen here! The lines are just perfect.
LOVE the kitchen. If I could have put that in large bold letters, I would have. LOVE, LOVE, LOVE. The bricks! The cabinets! The chalkboard wall! The bar! The pendant lights! Very cool.
i love your kitchen!
The kitchen does look like it's part of a completely different house but I like that. Nice work, guys. It's great to see what people do in these row houses.
That yard area is fabulous!
I love this one! Well done. I especially love that orange apple mirror in the bedroom.
The painting on the turquoise wall in the 2nd bedroom pic is GORGEOUS. Who is the artist?
I love your backyard and the puppies!
ditto hiwelder
I love the way you hung the photos above your bed, your apple mirror, your living room table lamp & your black dog!
I love, love the kitchen.
Nice house and great backyard!
Sincerley,
Your fellow "Fluffian" and 'Small Division' (#27) competitor in Fairmount.
And...I can't spell sincerely!!
I think yours is my favorite kitchen of all time.
Wow, thanks for all the great comments guys!
@polariss: the color in the bedroom with the all the frames was a color match from a photo in a magazine, so i can give you the custom color match components -
Behr 2400 Interior Eggshell, CLRNT oz 384th, B 0 60, C 1 228, E 3 252
@quinnley: we are in graduate hospital!
@ishwarke: the artist is my husband Brian. It is one of my favorite pieces in our house.
And we're definitely loving all the Philly love that AT has got going on in this contest - @clank1969 - we are LOVING your place!!
THE KITCHEN!!!
Is the kitchen bar & stools an ikea hack, part of the original kitchen or where did you get that from? Love the dogs, pics of the dogs above the bed, and the exposed brick. Cute pink bedspread too.
I like the kitchen too - although only seeing one part of it - love the bedroom with all the exposed brick - don't mind your mix of styles - your home should be full of what you like even if it doesn't fit into one style genre. You won't get tired nor want to get rid of what you truly like.
so homey and cozy!
that apple mirror will be weighing on my brain all day.
Beautiful!! I am so impressed.
Love it!
Where did you get that banquette?!
Love, love. Young and vibrant and colorful and tasteful.
Pregnant lady painting in the bedroom, where from?
@kmccullin: the kitchen stools are from a high school art room where my dad works, and the bar/island is a custom built piece made from meganite.
@kday: are you referring to the outdoor seating area? if so, it is the arholma outdoor furniture series from ikea.
@ stephaniedg: the pregnant lady painting is an original by my husband ode to gustav klimt.
thanks!
Jaclyn -
I'm new to wood flooring so excuse the n00bness of the question - but what type of floors are those? They are absolutely stunning. I'm in the process of buying a condo and would love to take up the carpet and put down floors like you have.
@ blixx: the wood floors are original to the house. They are yellow pine wood planks. The kitchen was the only room that had not been stained because it was covered with linoleum when we moved in. We ripped up the linoleum and did a light sand and clearcoat polyurethane. We, too, love them - they were definitely a selling point for us! Good luck with your condo!
what are the sofa and lamp in the living room?
love your place! voted for you!
LOVE the exposed brick throughout!
I LOVE your backyard. Such a smart design for people with pets.
@mime -
the sofa is the spencer sofa from gus modern - http://www.gusdesigngroup.com/products1/sofas/spencer-sofa/spencer-sofa.shtml#spencer-sofa
and the lamp is a replica of the Arco floor lamp. We got it at a local boutique called Open House here in Philly - I'm not sure who makes ours.
thanks for the vote!
Love this home! Can you tell me where your kitchen pendants are from? Thanks!
yay Philadelphia! I love this take on a layout that a lot of my friends have too.. I agree that a totally Modern/minimal take on a rowhome rarely works. Love the layers of different patterns -- I'm not sure I really "get" the kitchen (partly b/c the picture is a funny angle) but it's certainly styled well.
Hello nycmom350
Those pendants are designed by Sofie Refer. We love them!

-from Brian (Jaclyn's husband)
Don't care for anything other than the outside yard. The inside has absolutely no flair or concept design! It looks almost cluttered and the southwest rug should have been thrown out in 1987. Sorry, just not my taste.
Your husband painted that? Oh goodness! Sooo beautiful! Brian--do you sell your work??
The house is very Philly but your style is totally unique! Love it!
where did you get your white bed?! love it.
@ishwarke - Brian has yet to sell a painting...but maybe someday...he's flattered by all these great comments about his work!!
@Leezlee03 - the white bed is from IKEA- the Malm bed.
Thanks all!
How about the large, plain pendant light in the bedroom... where did you get that? I'm thinking IKEA but I don't remember that diffuser.
Love your place and your color choices!! Having said that, though I, too, like your kitchen, I think a colorful (doesn't have to be wild) rug would really work to bring your entire place together. I know ones "home" doesn't have to be tied together by color. But I love how each room has a "pop" of color, such as the bright blue next to the brick wall. So, after scrolling through all the images, you get to the kitchen and "I" want to be surprised by a "pop" of color.
@ pochron - the pendant light in the bedroom is from IKEA. We got it about a year and a half ago - not sure if they still sell that style.
I would like to see more pics pleaseeee!!!
The backyard is awesome. I've been trying to add structure to my own and this gives me some food for thought.
Your apartment is absolutely beautiful! What color is the paint in the living room? It's such a soft yet interesting neutral -- and I can't tell if it's a green or a grey. Could you tell us the brand name and shade?
@vgaria103: Thanks! Unfortunately, we have no info on the living room paint color...it was actually a mess up color. We picked another color and then changed our minds mid mix up, so the man at the paint store attempted to match the new color by adding some black. And that's what turned out. It is a green-y shade and we are actually quite happy with it too.
Funny about the stools in the kitchen. My Dad has those exact type from a salvage job tearing down an old 1940's University building. They truly are comfortable and versatile.
