What is your favorite element of your Small & Cool home? I love the contrast of the airiness of the white walls and high ceilings with the cozier feel of the black livingroom space. Friends love our never-ending gallery throughout the place.

What was one of the biggest challenges you faced in furnishing your Small Cool home? Lighting! There were no fixtures in the apartment when we moved in (something I failed to notice on the sunny day we rented the place!)

Commercial Flour Sa...
Love that you weren't afraid to do black walls in a small place.
I really want to hope that I'd like this but crappy lighting and odd angles (with the exception of #3 & 4) make this a hard one to judge, although, I appreciate the apartment layout.
I love the black wall! It looks great with the sunburst mirror.
i can still appreciate the style and design of this very real and cozy space, regardless of picture quality/lighting. it's hard to take pictures in a small space! especially if you don't have any photography training.
i'm not getting a feel for your condo from the photos you submitted. you mentioned dark in your description and i wonder if it is your camera or the lack of lighting. the artwork on the walls seem a tad bit much for my taste. but appreciate that you put it all out there.
Charming!
It seems to me that any "dark" is definitely a product of the photography. This is a lovely home and full of personality. I would feel very comfortable here.
Thanks for your 'thumbs up' and sorry about my crappy camera work! It's tough to take panoramic shots when you're inside a small (cool) space.
I'm guessing it may also be tough to get my deposit back with all the holes I've put in the walls, not to mention the black paint...
I'm just glad that after three moves in three years I've managed to fit all my existing furniture in each place (and I get to keep trying out new layouts and colour schemes).
Oh my goodness, I LOVE this!!!
I love your space! It's fantastic! I'm a huge sucker for black walls, too, so good on you for just going for it! It looks great. :)
Hope you don't mind my asking, but where did you get your sofa from?
I like the "gallery" idea and might use it in my next place, as I have tons of artwork and stuff for the walls.
I hate purple. Really hate it. And I gave you a thumbs up. This was nice. Very good job.
Is it purple or black? It looks purple.
Still it is nice.
Who cares about the quality of the photos. I think this place is beautiful and original. Thumbs up!!!
Love this.
I think this would be my very favorite so far, but the pictures are really bad. Why oh why? But still, thumbs up!
I dont think the pics were THAT bad!
I loved the purple/black wall, but not sure it works with the white-ish colour of the other wall?
But I still think it looked cosy and warm and lived in
Even though the photos are poor quality your home still looks lovely.
I'm liking the window frame on the bedroom wall, and where did you get that gorgeous mirror?
Krissy B - the sofa is from IKEA. It's the EKESKOG. It's huge (almost 8' long) and comfy (40" deep) and often a challenge to fit into a small space or up the flights of stairs when moving, but sooo worth it. It seats 4 or 5 during movie nights or family visits and is the size of a single bed for hosting an overnight guest.
laurapescot - glad you like the place, even with the 'purple'. The wall was meant to be black. Sometimes in the daytime there is the faintist tinge of eggplant to it. I think the paint colour was called 'Napoleon'.
AngelaDee76 - the mirror was a total score at Pier 1 (about 6 years ago).
If we could get some sunshine here in Vermont, I'd be happy to retake & repost some crisper photos. I think the low light from the drizzy, grey spring days *sigh* is resulting in the grainy-ness.
Favorite so far! The dining room is especially lovely. Great job!
Also, hooray for Burlington! It's nice to see VT entering into the game.
There's actually something charming about the grainy photos -- like they were taken with my old Kodak Instamatic. Good luck covering that black wall when it's time to move;-)
Thanks for the votes!
Gvinton- the dining table is probably my favourite piece. It's decoupaged - covered with ticket stubs, maps and other paraphernalia from a 3 month trip through France, Italy and Greece. The best thing about it is it doesn't show crumbs or spills.
I think the murky, vintagey, 70s-summer-afternoon quality of your photos works beautifully with the aesthetic of your place. Neat and dreamy. I like.
What's happening on the dining table? Collage? I like the tones.
Great use of space and I really like the dark wall. I also have a very dark (brown) wall in a rather small room and love it - everything really stands out against it.
i like the pics -- they have a very vintage better homes and gardens kind of thing going on with the color wash and grain. everyone is so pissy about their digital.
did you use a digital camera to the pics?
oh -- and the black paint will cover with killz. you will give your landlord a heart attack if you don't paint before you move out. i had an old roommate that insisted on a black dining room. i was busy painting everything else dark purple.
This makes me want to move to Burlington.
It's black!? Uh-oh. I gave it a thumbs up because I thought it was a nice use of purple as a backdrop for video watching!
