Small Cool 2010: Daniel's Industrial Modern

Little Division #4

Who Lives Here: Daniel + 1 Location: Newport, Rhode Island Size: 740 square feet

What is your favorite element of your Small & Cool home? I would have to say the raised breakfast bar. That was made from leftover cedar balusters from the exterior staircase.

What was one of the biggest challenges you faced in furnishing your Small Cool home? I wanted all new floors with hydronic radiant heating underneath on a tight budget. I ended up going with 1x12 pine boards face nailed which after 2 years of use look as if they have been there for decades. For the radiant pex heating, I used OSB cut into 7" strips and spaced ½" apart to create the tracks and routed out all of the half circles. I also used metal printing plates from a local newspaper printer that help reflect the heat up.
