What is your favorite element of your Small & Cool home? I love how a simple, inexpensive bookshelf from IKEA has divided my studio into two distinct rooms.

What was one of the biggest challenges you faced in furnishing your Small Cool home? One of the biggest challenges that I faced in furnishing my apartment was that all I had were my clothes and personal items. On top of that, my budget at the time was extremely limited. I bought the basics (bed, sofa, dresser, desk, and bookshelf) in neutral colors and added on. Each month I'd buy something new. I definitely found websites, blogs, and magazines to be inspiring. You'd be amazed how easy it is to translate expensive pieces into inexpensive, DIY projects.

Perfect description..."Simple and Sweet" and I love it!
I used to live in a smaller unit like this, in the city and I know how difficult is to decorate, this is simply beautiful.
Well use of space!! Good job!
The bedroom is my favorite. I'm a sucker for beautiful artwork.
Very sweet! You've done wonders with just 280 sq feet!!
Very sweet. Only in New York, a hearth adjacent fridge.
What a lovely fireplace. The black & white chair looks so elegant next to it.
Great job creating your space.
Lovely place!
It amazes me that even the teeny tiny apartments in the US have a bath. I live in a 910 sq ft apartment in Europe and only have a shower. :(
I used to live in the apartment directly above this one. Here is a link photos of how I used the space to illustrate how much better Amanda is at organizing and decorating.

Very good use of space. Love it!
@samrosenb - What a small world! I didn't even realized you moved out. Thanks so much for the compliment!
Love it! Can I ask where you got your chair and shower curtain?
Great job Amanda! That black and white chair is fabulous- can you (or someone else) source this for me?
I feel like I saw the chair in Pier 1 last time I was in. I could be wrong.
Really great! It looks so comfy and pretty.
I love your bedding!
Thanks everyone!
The chair is from Pier One.
The shower curtain is from a store in Michigan called the Great Indoors.
Your space is so impressive!
Great job!
Wow! Amazing job in such a teeny space! Very impressive.
the fact that you have made such a TINY place look so great gets you 2 thumbs up!
nice job!
This darling apartment honestly makes me want to move into a 280 sq ft place! I would love to know where the combo desk/sheving unit are from. Thanks!
This is so inspiring! I love every sq foot of her apartment. I am relocating soon, and just like her, all I will be taking are clothes and personal items, so I have to start over as well with furniture. This has given me so much inspiration. I'm ready to decorate!
does that fireplace work?
"simple & sweet" is the perfect description for this lovely studio. I love it!
I just love your bedroom. So cozy.
@frygirl - The desk and shelving unit are from Crate & Barrel and thanks so much for the vote!
@Coletta - No, the fireplace doesn't work. Yikes... disaster waiting to happen! Thanks for the vote!
Seeing "SAMROSENB" pictures has really shown the thought process you ahd to go through, and I love it!!!!! Good job at making such a tiny space look so warm. I only have one probelm but that would be if "I" lived there...lol!!! What would I do with all my shoes????? I would have to hang them from the ceiling, the closet is tiny, Props to you for being able to fit all your clothes in there.
Very cute!
Great use of space!
I thought it was sweet and lovely when I first saw it but wow, samrosenb's pictures of the identical space really made me see it in a new light! The space looks so much bigger with that bookcase. You did a great job with your choices and arrangement.
Thanks for all the comments!
@jackieb31 - My shoes are all in individual shoe boxes... Trust me... It is rough, but forces quality over quantity! Thanks for the compliment!
The artwork above the bed is beautiful. Can you tell us more about it?
@LSUgrad03 - The artwork above my bed... I saw it and loved it and then doubted it. A couple months later I saw it in Domino magazine (RIP!) and it confirmed that I had to have it. I got it online - http://txtlart.com. And thank you!
Very sweet indeed.
Really great job.
It's impressive that it doesn't seem small despite its square footage.
If Sam(rosenb) doesn't already work in sales, perhaps he should consider a new profession.
Seriously- this is adorable, anyway, but his photos pretty much guaranteed you my vote.
Amazing use of space - I've seen a lot of places in the contest where the bed is in the living room (in much bigger square footage) and always wish there was some sort of divider. Your apartment is sweet, funky and cool without feeling cluttered and crowded. Great job!
Thumps up to this place.
Thank you Sam for your link, your photos really helped many of us to make comparative study of space and arrangement.
(Stanley and Kubrick are ADORABLE!)
OK I just love your floor plan, I think I might do something simular having a hard time decideing because my bed will fit in the closet, but will leave me with no storage space.
Thanks for sharing
Amazing job! It looks like you plucked it right out of a magazine.
Really well presented. The photos show the space well.
Amanda, what an amazing space. I love the 2 little round tables in front of the sofa. Can you share where you found them?
Completely love the painting above your bed! It is so great :)
Will you tell us who the artist is or where you found it?
I'm pretty sure the wall art above the bed is Iso Satokieli for Marimekko.
oops. meant to say by Marimekko. its designed by Maija Louekari for Marimekko. there is a shower curtain in the same design i coveted until i decided i couldn't deal with the fact that it was polyester.
Love it. Those tables are perfect for your living room. Thumbs up!
Simply amazing! Lovely.
@remy - The two round tables are from CB2 in SoHo. They're excellent and sturdy enough for additional seating if needed. Thanks!
Just simply beautiful!
What a great place! Good Job! Just wondering, did you make the wall decor on your living room on your own? If not, where did you purchase them?
@tamarakel - Thanks so much! Yes, I did make all of the wall decor in my living room and in my bedroom (striped prints). I purchased inexpensive frames and then bought really nice printed paper. I often change the prints out depending on the season. If you're in NYC, you can find great paper at Kate's Paperie or Paper Presentation.
280 sf! I'm comfortable in 370 with a loft bed, but I can't imagine losing 100. You made it look effortless using familiar pieces. The Klippan looks great and I wonder how people divided rooms before the Expedit.
I'm being conservative with the thumbs up but I gave this one before realizing how tiny it was. I wish I could give it two.
Great space! I'm moving to a studio of similar size soon, and was planning on using the same Ikea room divider/shelf...thanks for showing me how great it can turn out!
love the living room :)
Cute as a button! :-) I wish I could vote.
LOVE this! It totally inspires me! Thanks for sharing.
280 feet really? I kept wishing I could see more, but honestly, I don't know who you photograph 280 feet. Very difficult. I think anyone managing to turn such a small place into a cozy home deserves thumb's up. You've done a great job. Love the art over the bed.
LOVE the picture over the bed!
Small, beautiful and Home! way to go Amanda - Proud to be your Aunt in Michigan!
Cute; if they'd invested in some luxe lighting, it would've been SO much more impressive.
Djluckyonline - I rent this place and do not plan on being here long-term; therefore, I see no value in investing in "luxe" lighting.
In the AT book, Max really stresses good lighting wether you're renting or not. Plus, you can always take your fixtures with you, it's not that hard, or inexpensive and it makes A WORLD of difference. Also, never use the semi-colon to join two sentences if you're also using a word like therefore, but or and... it's sort of like, double negatives. A simple period would have sufficed. I see that in your decorating style as well, more isn't always best. Edit, for example the 'twin tables' are excessive when a single medium-sized one would've worked beautifully and elegantly. There's way too many TINY things, instead of a beautiful single focal point. Repetition's nice but a single bold beautiful statement is worth thousands of ok-looking items. That's all.
Get over yourself, Djluckyonline. Her place is darling. And your self-important grammatical rant got my semi-colon in a twist. Period, asterisk, hyphen ....the end.
I am in LOVE with your apartment. I'm moving to a similar-looking apartment in Chelsea next month and starting from scratch in terms of decorating. I'm curious what size bed you have, as well as what kind of bed frame (platform, low profile, etc.). May I also ask what color your walls are? The different shades look awesome together and I would love to try and emulate it.
Even though I'm a year late - your place is absolutely charming!
Hi Amanda!
Can you tell me where you got your desk/bookshelf? I'm a graphic designer and live in a 300sq ft apt in Chicago. I really need a workspace with a lot of storage/shelving.
Thanks so much, your place is so cute!
