Size: 390 square feet

What is your favorite element of your Small & Cool home? It's hard to decide between the high ceilings, the brick wall, the direct sunlight, and things I've made myself like the Jean Pelle designed bubble chandelier — but I would have to say my favorite part is actually the fact that our kitchen and bathroom HAVEN'T been renovated since the 60's or 70's. I've grown quite fond of our funky retro kitchen and yellow tile and fixture bathroom.

What was one of the biggest challenges you faced in furnishing your Small Cool home? Uhh, besides moving a sleeper sofa up to the 5th floor of a walk-up…having the cash, of course, to get what we really want. We moved in together with what we both had accumulated during grad school, subtracting and adding a few things we could afford at the time. That's why our place is a bit of an IKEA-fest, supplemented by craigslist and a friend's chair that we are babysitting while they are across the world. So while we slowly upgrade to higher quality design and cooler vintage pieces, we just try to minimize the ugliness of some things — like the sofa (free on craigslist!)
