Who Lives Here: Carolyn + 1 + 2 toddlers
Location: Clinton Hill — Brooklyn, NYC
Size: 796 square feet

What is your favorite element of your Small & Cool home? Our large, ultra private L-shaped garden that surrounds our 2 bedroom apartment. It makes our small place feel worlds larger (especially in the warmer months) and gives us a quiet and privacy that I have never seen in any other city apartment.

What was one of the biggest challenges you faced in furnishing your Small Cool home? Our combined living/dining room had to accommodate both functions to the fullest, and at 15'x16', it is hard to have a cozy couch/living area, a real dining area where the four of us (or more) can dine comfortably, and a rug/play area for the kids with out it feeling crazy and crowded. We really wanted it to be cozy but also clean and not too cluttered. Our apartment has been a major work in progress and at least every two months we find ourselves rearranging furniture to better suit our rapidly evolving family and needs. I find myself always going back to AT (of course) for inspiration, NU, RePOP, and Fabrica (here in Brooklyn), and a combo of old family items passed down/IKEA/random thrift store finds.
