Who Lives Here: Eleanor Location: Seattle, Washington Size: 490 square feet
What is your favorite element of your Small & Cool home? That it's small! I haven't once felt like I don't have enough room. I also found some pretty rad Craigslist finds along the way that I can't live without now!

What was one of the biggest challenges you faced in furnishing your Small Cool home? In 2008, after living in Washington, DC for 6 years, I packed up everything that was really important to me and drove across the country to Seattle for a new job. Making my life fit into a 5'x8' trailer was a huge lesson in 'editing', but when I moved into my Seattle apartment, I didn't have a bunch of stuff I didn't need. I also forced myself to take time finding furniture I really liked, instead of just filling the space as soon as I could.

I really like your dishtowels, and your dog. :-)
simple, but nice.
great yellow end table in the bedroom...is that vintage??
Second the yellow end table comment - it's gorgeous!
Storing the bicycle in the living room works here, because it's so vintage-y and sculptural looking.
Love the yellow end table and the corner cabinet and the adorable bicycle:)
I like the yellow end table and the mirror in your bedroom. Where did you get them from?
Thanks for the kind comments! The yellow nightstand came from Craigslist - it was actually thrown in for free from the old fisherman I bought my dresser (not pictured) from. I painted it and gave it new knobs. The mirror is from a stall in Eastern Market, a DC flea market. The dogs are 'vintage' too - rescues!
Love the bicycle! What brand is it and can you ride it up the seattle hills?
Yay Seattle!!
(Love your place.)
i really like your headboard.
Hi Eleanor. I like your apartment. Where do the chili babies sleep? Where do you store the wagon in such a compact space? Amazing!
Your place looks great, Eleanor. I also love the end table--great color!
Beautiful place and I particularly like the portraits of your dogs - such a sweet touch !!!
Whoa, trippy! We have twin apartments! Mine's 485sq.feet (45 square meters) and has a practically identical floor plan, though the windows are placed differently. Floor plan here:

Love your bicycle too.
I like it - wish you would have shot on a sunnier day as it looks a little dreary in pix. thumbs up
jettsam: As a lifetime resident, I can assure you: there's no such thing as a sunny day in Seattle before June!
That's funny, I'm sitting here in the CD and I just now pulled the shade because the sun was too bright to see my monitor. But yeah, one should never plan an outdoor wedding in Seattle.
I used to have a vintage 0-speed cruiser that I rode everywhere in Seattle (no car). You can loose a lot of weight that way, it is a workout!
Charming apartment, I like your stack of boxes.
I think the living furnitures are a little too far apart?
A nice beginning but it looks a bit incomplete to me.
The chair in the corner I know is meant to be a reading nook, but it looks odd when viewed from across from the sofa. I was wanting to see it near the sofa for a nice seating group.
And I agree, the pictures look rather oddly hung.
Again, a nice, but simply furnished apt.
Where exactly in Seattle do you live? I'm a resident of this fine city myself and as I type this, I see sun across the way from me. :-)
Alycatnat, Unless you plan it for mid July to early Sept, the odds are indeed against you in doing an outdoor wedding. Good friends did one towards the middle to end of Sept and it rained through part of the service (fortunately they took that into account and had a tent raised to cover the wedding ceremony itself), the rest was indoors at the place where the whole thing took place and it was all quite nice.
The bike is a retro Cruiser by Trek - their 7 speek Calypso model from a few years ago. I absolutely adore it, however it is a total beast of a bike. I don't really event attempt our hills with it b/c the bike alone is so heavy!
I live in the Ballard neighborhood of Seattle, so the bike is perfect for riding to the the farmer's market and back - and the basket detaches, which is functional and cute (very important).
The two dog portraits were done by a coworker, Vicki Nelson of Vegan Me (www.veganme.com) and they are of my two rescue dogs. I love them!
The floor plan of this apt looks sooo much like mine and is only 10 sq ft bigger......Thank you for the inspiration!!
