Who Lives Here: Janean, Kyle and Pam, their "cute but crazy" cat Location: Columbus, Ohio Size: 664 square feet
What is your favorite element of your Small & Cool home? The floor to ceiling windows. On one side of our apartment, they overlook the courtyard, and, in the spring and summer, ivy grows over the screens, softly filtering the incoming light. For a traditional apartment with doors on each of the rooms, our space feels open and bright during the day and cozy during the evening hours. French doors separate the living room and bedroom and transom windows top each of the doors, allowing for light and air to circulate freely.

What was one of the biggest challenges you faced in furnishing your Small Cool home? Our apartment is located in a nearly century-old building with 12 inch-thick masonry walls. Although this certainly adds to the charm and character of our apartment, it makes hanging artwork and anchoring shelves seemingly impossible. But, because we're renters and couldn't paint, blank walls were simply not an option. Plus, in such a small space, we really counted on the walls for storage and display. (Where else could we put Kyle's burgeoning banjo and guitar collection?) After moving in, we finally managed to get a hold of a concrete drill (thanks Dad!) and the rest is history!

White Enamel Four-P...
this is such a stylish, welcoming, and comfortable apartment. the pictures are lovely, and it's even better in person.
i dig the yellow :) it's more than a brighter color it's a brighter feeling to the place. countered by darker wood it stands out all the more.
c-bus is an underrated town!
Sweet space.
Yay! An entry in C-bus! Love it!
Are those shelves above the couch from CB2? I just ordered four of them, how do you like them?
That is a great coffee table - thanks for sharing!
Love your bedroom. It makes me want to take a sunny afternoon nap with your cat!
seeing your apartment pics were eerie, because i have almost the same exact set-up/size and all. even down to the odd 'space' beside my kitchen sink...and the french doors in the bedroom.
happy to see how you used the space, especially putting the chair in front of one of the french doors. I have too many side chairs and not enough room...and was always worried i couldn't pull it off.
with a little maneuvering in my room to set the bed at the opposite wall (where you have it placed now), i think i could make it work.
thanks for the great idea!
I really like that yellow mirror in your bedroom. Where is that from?
I really love your space! So much great personality, wonderful colors, fabulous pieces and a really cozy but clean layout. And -- shocker -- it actually looks like someone lives there. This may be one of my favorite spaces that I've seen on AT (or in real life).
I really enjoy the pop of color, yellow and orange, and how it makes the rooms feel so lively. And the print in the kitchen….it made me smile just reading it.
What a great flair combining both comfort and energy for a great urban space. Beautifully done sweetie!

nice use of local art as well. i spy a Dan Gerdeman in photo #3.
great apartment, where was it when I was apartment hunting?
hi all! thanks for all your kind comments!
itsmikethomas -- actually the shelves are from ikea. i like the cb2 ones too, but ikea was a little cheaper.
nytams -- the yellow mirror is a thrift store find. it's just spraypainted. over the years it's been green, gold, red and now yellow!
nico_forgot -- i agree. columbus is an underrated town!

I love the colors! Great use of bright colors on neutral backgrounds.
I love your space, it looks so comfortable. I must say I'm very jealous. I have live in columbus all my life(50yrs), and have never seen an apartment this cute with such thick walls. I have a hearing problem and am very sensitive to noise, this would be heaven to me, especially since I'm looking for an apartment. Good luck!
I like it - although not the reddish orange pillows on the green couch - too christmasy looking
Where are your bed linens and pillows from? I love them!
I love your apartment!! So inspiring.
I just relocated here, and don't know much about the area just yet. Where are some good thrift stores around Columbus? I too am trying to furnish my new apartment, and I haven't been able to really find any thrift shops.
Thanks!
