Small Cool 2010: Jenna's Quirks & Character

Little Division # 5

Who Lives Here: Jenna, her fiancee, 2 dogs & 1 kitty
Location: Hamtramck, Michigan
Size: 620 square feet

What is your favorite element of your Small & Cool home? Our home is nearing 100 years old, so it has a lot of quirks and character. I love all of the original details like the wide door & window trim and the wooden floors! The layout is also fabulous - the living quarters are completely separate from the sleeping and office quarters, making it easy to entertain while not disturbing anyone who is trying to work. And contrary to most old, urban homes, we have a lot of closet storage.

What was one of the biggest challenges you faced in furnishing your Small Cool home? There are a lot of smaller rooms in our house and a lot of walls and doorways, which especially limits item placement. Not being able to rearrange rooms has been especially hard for me: a room-rearranging junkie. We are constantly finding vintage treasures that we would like to add to our space, but we are pretty much at furniture capacity! To keep overcrowding at bay, we've found a couple of really special furniture and decor items, and said goodbye to ones that don't matter as much. We've learned to not purchase things that won't make an extra special addition to our little space.
