What was one of the biggest challenges you faced in furnishing your Small Cool home? Probably storage. We added built in cabinets in the hallway and an entertainment center/bookshelf in the living room to accommodate all our stuff, we even built in a "kitty bathroom".

White Enamel Flatwa...
beautiful.
that floor is ahhh-mazing. nice work all around.
I'd love to know where that comforter came from.
The colors in the bedroom are great.
Pictures hanging over the bed make me nervous, though. You are in the land of earthquakes. . .
I love love love the floors - what is that?
Kara, what paint color did you use in the room with the TV? We're trying to paint a wall in our living room gray and would love to use your color!
THe floors are insane!! Love them. Kara, I have the exact (almost, i have the sofa plus chaise) sofa and carpet *in the same colors* in my place!! And I thought I was all original. ;)
Gray is soothing. .. (Excellent cat actor)
I never new how much I liked gray. Awesome.
This is GREAT! OMG! Of all the entries this is the only one that has made me want a bigger space! I especially like that the MCM pieces aren't pushing the decor choices, but are there as wonderful pieces of functional furniture.
Sorry. I never KNEW how much I liked gray.
My new favorite.
Wow.
An easy thumbs-up here.
Although it's ultra-modern, it feels really warm and cozy. I hadn't read WHO lived there before flipping through the photos, and, for whatever reason, assumed it was a family. Was surprised to see a single lady! You've created such an inviting, comfortable space.
Those windows are incredible. Rare to see a condo with so much light in the kitchen. Lucky you!
Oh!
And that entertainment unit is incredible.
And the floors.
Love the gray, and LOVE the floors. They're gorgeous!
Finally, someone who understands that not every flat surface needs some decorative tchotchke on it. The way you've collected your art on the wall in the bedroom, perfect. Your cat must be in heaven, with his perch above the city. Well done lady.
You have a really beautiful place - I especially love the floors and everything about your entryway. I don't understand picture number 3, though...it's just a picture of a cookie cutter kitchen and a saarinen table that I could see anywhere. The other rooms have so much character.
Where is that sofa from??? It looks awesome!!
I love the fact that the cat matches the living room colour scheme.
Other fine features include the sense of cosiness created by the painted ceiling in the bedroom, the fact that the oversized light fitting in the dining room echoes the size and shape of the table, and those crazy floors. Thumbs up.
@ pavillion: it's the Chelsea sofa from Room and Board.
love the grey -- hate the cow pelts. aren't we over that yet?
love, love, love the dark grey paint. awesome!
in love.
I love it. Good job. :)
Where did you get the black and white poster with all the words on it. I have been lookin like crazy for it. Great space FYI
The poster with all the words on it is a destination roll from a bus, or possibly a tram, from Newcastle-upon-Tyne in the UK! The driver turned a handle that rotated two drums that moved the new destination into the window on the front of the bus. I'm explaining this because I imagine some people reading this blog have only ever seen digital displays on buses!
How did that get to California? It looks like an original piece, given by the curled edges. Love it!
the bus roll looks great on the wall but it's quite a hilarious contrast to the room if you actually know any of those places
Floorrrrrrrrr. Oh, that floor. I want to have 10,000 of that floor's babies.
@spacedman: I'm glad to hear that. I thought it was one of those "here are all the neighborhoods in my city" signs, and was peeved when I didn't read all the way through it and come up with anywhere I recognized. Newcastle-upon-Tyne would explain it! (Why are English and French place names so much better than ours?)
this made me bid on a train destination roll today. ha. very nicely composed home. thumbs up.
Major love for my native Long Beach and the slamming style that Kara brings it. This place is a jewel! xo A@ ShelterPop.com
i have the same cat.
it goes with everything.
LOVE your house. Where are those couches/chaises from?
Hi Everybody! Thanks for the great comments. I must have mistyped because I am married and live here with my husband and 2 cats. I'm not a crazy cat lady - well maybe a little. We renovated the entire condo and it's hard to photograph the whole place. The floors are BR111 1/2" Engineered Hard Wood Floors in Macchiato Pecan. The bus roll is original, I got it from a guy at the Long Beach flea market. I think I have his card somewhere will post later with the paint colors.
I love everything beginning with the floors, kitchen remodel, inviting bedroom, etc. Too bad the bathroom didn't make it since there was a max amount of pictures:( The kitty's Jack and Bean do not always show their best side but truly blend well with all the decor! The balcony which has already been shown in a previous article really allows for great entertaining! LOVE IT!!
NEEEEEEED the bedspread! PLEASE PLEASE tell me where????? also stalking this post for the bus roll guys info!
Beautiful colors, Love the gray !!
Floors are looking very unique too, br111 does some really nice stuff. I know they have a contest going on via their website, and some interesting ideas to pick on !!
You should definitely go take a look and submit yours !
Bed Quilt was Dwell for Target. I saw it on closeout the other week so they may not carry it anymore but there is a very cool grey Thomas O'Brian quilt also at Target.
That floor is to die for! Also love your bedroom colors. If I were your cat, I would never leave that bed!
must be such a calming space to come home to, love it!
Nice place. To me, it looks more like the East Coast/Midwest/Canada homes we see on AT than a Southern California home. I like how you've grouped the artwork low and wide over the bed.
Pedlars have loads of bus rolls and destination boards http://www.pedlars.co.uk/signs-maps.html.
I would imagine they'd ship to the US (they are that sort of place. They are also quite pricey!).
I love your apartment. Very nicely done. My only negative comment is that either your counter or table needs to have something (bowl, plant, vase)....please...for me and my neurotic need?
:)

Wow! Absolutely gorgeous Kara........Simply Amazing. I love the flooring! The kitty's must be living it up when you are away, in thier swanky home!
That's the color I'm painting my living room. I love how the ceiling in the bedroom isn't white. Great work.
Your living room is extra sexy! Love, love, love that sofa! You can't much more sophisticated than that. And the roll sign goes oh-so perfectly! Don't even get me started on the floor. I love how it looks like a different shade in each room...
the floors...............................!!!!!!
Congratulations!!!! You created a beautiful space! Thank you for letting us know the floors are BR111, I just checked their website, they really have very cool stuff!!!
www.BR111.com
All paint in Benjamin Moore Aura, in Matte Finish, the living area color is 2126-20 Raccoon Fur and the bedroom color is 2112-10 Mink. I have searched and searched for the business card for the bus roll guy, and alas I cannot find it. Sorry about that.
I appreciate how gorgeous this is, but I wish it had more....color. And felt a bit more lived in. Great place, though.
Love it love it love it.....................did I say I love it. By far the most beautiful of all!!
love the wood floor...
Love the dark gray, love the simplicity, love the warmth... Jealous of the windows...
THIS APT IS OFF THE HOOK!!! ABSOLUTELY GORGEOUS !!! I LOVE GRAY...MY ROOM IS PAINTED AN BEAUTIFUL SHADE OF GRAY. U SHOULD WIN JUST FOR YOUR STYLE CHOICES. THOSE FLOOR ARE SO UNIQUE.......THOSE SHOULD WIN THE CONTEST ON THE BEST FLOORS ON EARTH.
Designing your living room around your cat! Great idea!
another entry, mathew from philly, also has a bus scroll as art!
awesomely awesome
my favorite, by far.
love the bedroom colour and feel, looks calming and serene.
Ive never seen floors like those, what type of wood is that?
Im glad I found this, because Im thinking of painting my living gray. A bright gray though. I love the shade you chose, although you have tons of light, which gives you WAY more options.
This place is very sophisticated. I wish that I were similarly so.
Oops, too early here. I meant to say:
This place is very sophisticated. I wished that mine were similarly so.
Perhaps the earlier statement is also true.
wow! As a window lover what I'm really impressed by your windows! Oh goodness can I live next door? haha
But you've also really utilized this space well
this is extremely beautiful and well put together.
please source the zig zag pillow on the sofa. missoni??
This place is awesome. I can't believe it's being beaten by Jaclyn from Philadelphia. I wonder how that's happening.
this place has a extremely contagious feel and I just love how she used her colors to work with the abundance of light that comes into the small area. the other Philadelphia place is just too hideous with it's southwester design rug...yuck!
Hello! Wonderful apartment, I love the simplistic layout! Might I suggest one thing: I am not sure if you own or rent, however, I would highly recommend installing sliding doors between the masterbath and bedroom.
You are insanely talented. The composition over the bed is perfection. Everything about this place says "home" but not "filled to the gills with superfluous trinkets." I will be moving in this weekend! And those floors? WOW.
