Who Lives Here: Lindsay Location: Fort Greene — Brooklyn, NYC Size: 350 square feet
What is your favorite element of your Small & Cool home? The fact that I carved distinct sleeping, eating and living areas out of my little box of an apartment. It's nice to have the separate areas even if they are just inches apart from one another.

What was one of the biggest challenges you faced in furnishing your Small Cool home? Dealing with a tiny rectangular room with very little wall space that you can actually put furniture up against was a huge challenge. I was saved by floor planning software that allowed me to spend many dorky hours playing with the placement of the furniture I was thinking about purchasing. It was difficult to find just the right pieces to fit the space and I was sorry I didn't have the flexibility to get a couple of funkier vintage pieces. It was also challenging to avoid using too many bright colors. I love color but I need soothing colors to be able to sleep. With no separate bedroom I had to tone the whole place down a notch, but I'm glad I managed to squeeze a few bright pieces in.

I LOVE this place. Beautiful. A place for everything.
STUNNING. love the colors, the light, the couch and that cb2 bar bookcase thingy. perfect usage of that piece!!
this is really fantastic. it appears to be totally functional and i love the colour palette you've gone with. very well done for such a small space!
Perfectly put together place. Great view is the icing.
This. Is. AMAZING! It's feminine, it's stylish, it's bright. But the best thing is, even though it's small, it looks really open and airy. I also love how you delineated your bedroom space with the sky blue walls. Perfect color choice. The mirror above the bed opens up your space as well. You did a great job. Great, great, great.
Great job. Makes me want a small place:)
Adorable, lovely, well put together - my fav so far!
Wow--it's great arrangement. Looks bright and airy and very comfortable.
(And not for nothing--two closets, a washer/dryer, and a bathtub in 350 square feet. And that view.)
favorite so far!
at first, passed this by, then realized that there are a lot of interesting choices and a floor plan(!) that shows the challenges of the space. livable and flexible, nice colours, zones of use (and a w/d? bonus).
Fantastic.
This place is great!!
I really like it. I could live like this easily. Only the spinal column of books makes me nervous. Maybe if all the books were jacketed in white paper covers...Nit-picky, I know! Everything else is extremely pulled-together!
I like the use of the clear "C table" as a bedside table - that's a really good space saver.
beyond awesome.
to make this place feel like your home is truly an accomplishment. i agree that it is fully functional and creative. i can tell thought went into this space. awesome job!
Wow. Such a lovely place; functional & comfortable. And then I saw the natural light from the corner window in the dining area...what a gem.
Anyone know where those tables are from?
Oh the view! I can see why you chose to call this place home! I am willing to give up a lot of space to be able to look out at something interesting!
This is gorgeous. I love how you can fit a full living room - not just a sofa, but a great chair as well - and not feel overcrowded at all. Very elegant, simple and hip. Super fab apartment!
definitely the best in all divisions! i'm so impressed... inspired!
I am also DYING to know where those tables are from. I am in love with your space.
where'd you get the arm chair in the living area??
LOVE IT, I'd be quite happy in something that size. but with a balcony of course. hehe.
love. love love.
sweet!
FINALLY a FORREAL LIFE SMALL SPACE that's realistcally designed for the everyday folk!!! Beautiful, smart, reasonable, and not "hyper-designed"!
Just lovely! So calming.
Come uptown Harlem you'll get much more space. That's to cramped.
Beautiful, I absolutely love the layout!
goooooold medal!
Love it! Everything is laid out perfectly.
Fantastic, THIS is what the contest is about and THANK YOU for no wasted pics on vignettes!
Ok, I am a total geek. Nearly every piece of furniture in that picture is from CB2. Those perfect tables (I want one for my place) are the Paperclip table(s). I want so many of the things from that store.
Beautiful space! Makes me think I can have the same in my 500 ft apartment.
That is the best Sofa EVER! Does anyone know where it's from?
I love your place! It is so refreshing for Brooklyn. It looks like it could be in San Francisco with all that light!
love all the beautiful and functional pieces. makes me believe i could live in a small studio!
Lovely...and with those windows and all that light, it opens up the space.
Lindsay, where did you get your bedding?
I love it.
Would have liked to have seen the bathroom. (color palette for walls & shower curtain). I'm sure it's just as wonderful as the rest of the apartment. I voted thumbs up on this one!
You've really done great things with such an difficult floorplan, well done.
Thank you everyone for the super nice comments!!!
Yes a lot of my furniture is from CB2, including the tables. They were having a sale when I moved in that if you brought in 5 canned good you got 15% off your whole purchase and they had a lot of stuff that worked well in the space so I went a little wild there.
The couch and the chair are both from Room & Board. The chair is the Cole Chair.
My bedding is from Blissliving.
Thanks again for all the comments. It's so much fun to get feedback!
LOVE this space! One question, though: do you use the kitchen bar as a desk area or do you just manage not to have one?
Fantastic job! And I laughed at your "many dorky hours" comment, because I'm exactly the same way about furniture arranging. I have a magnetic planning board, but I like the software idea. What program did you use?
Wow, excellent job!
I love love love the little plastic table over your bed.
Just looks both muted and warm, and slick and cosy at the same time - never easy to pull off!
I am curious what the renter/owner has done with that extra long and narrow hallway.
I LOVE IT! If I didn't have kids this would be my ideal apt.
Where did the comments on this post go? I was trying to figure out the source for those tables!
What a great apartment! I love how you've arranged the furniture and the calming colors you've used.
Where did you get your art above the sofa from?
Well done! And the view is spectacular.
It's like a mini CB2 Showroom! Sidecar High Dining table, Twine floor lamp, Vapor Barstool, Acacia Mini Bar, Matchbox dresser, Paperclip side Tables, Array bookcase and the Alpine bed...yes..I work there part time!
Nice use of all of the furniture in your space!
Not quite....the dresser is from West Elm and the bookcase is from DWR :)
For the artwork over the couch, the two prints were a gift and I can't remember the name of the artist but they are from the Brooklyn Flea. The photograph I got from Etsy from a British photographer.
In the hallway I have a series of Ork posters (Philadelphia, Brooklyn & New York) and a coat rack. I wanted to take a photo of the hallway but it was hard to get a good shot because it is so long and narrow.
For office type stuff I keep a box for files in the closet and have a laptop that I prefer to use while curled up on the couch or in my chair.
Thanks again for all the nice comments!
looks great! but isn't it a bit lacking in originality because it's essentially a cb2 showroom? no real personality in there?
whatever floats everyone's proverbial boat! I just like my spaces a bit more me
Superb! As an ex-Brooklynite I can see your place as an absolute retreat from the urban jungle. Well done!
Love it. LOVE the colors. Very calming and a nice contrast to the cityscape outside. My favorite so far.
L.O.V.E. The BEST so far. Love the colors, Love the furniture, Love the view, Love it ALL! Would have LOVED to see the bathroom ;)
I like this. The only thing I would consider of changing is replacing the 2 circular tables with one small coffee table... Other wise, I wouldn't change a thing. Good luck!
Absolutely lovely! I would probably make one of the closets a murphy bed, or get a Blu Dot one night stand.
I love this! My favorite this far!
Where is the tripod lamp on the dresser from? So cute!
I love your place! What really did it for me was the dining table/desk you have between your kitchen and living areas, I like the idea of having nice dinners with a great view and also being able to use the table for work. It's small, functional, and perfect for this place. Good eye.
I really like how this place came together. I especially like the small dining area that you created looking out the window! great job!
Awesome, love the blue wall paint.
This is what a studio apartment should look like!
Love it, love the view! LOVE the sofa!
This is just stunning, I love it. I don't know how you can bear to leave for work or shopping :)
The new Brooklyn: Being high enough not to need curtains. Fantastic use of space and the sunlight just adds the exclamation point.
awesome use of this space, i want!
love it!
I would LOVE to have a place that looked like this. What a fabulous use of space.
Beautiful job! I'm dying to know which refrigerator brand that is back there. I'm in Brooklyn and currently shopping for the same size.
The only issue I have is with the lack of separation between the bed and the sofa. They just seem on top of each other. I would probably put a shoji screen between the two when people were over. The rest is really well done.
The fridge is a SUMMIT Professional although I am not a huge fan of it. It has strange drawers in the bottom freezer portion that are hard to work with.
GORGEOUS, Lindsay. The sofa, coffee tables, and chair arrangement is just perfect for lounging. The glossy white CB2 dining table/shelf is a great idea and goes well with the kitchen cabs. The paint job is superb - I was actually going to paint my apartment in similar blues (I'm more a Tiffany blue person) to complement the kitchen backsplash.
See you this summer! I'd like to email you with a few questions. My email is musicalstitcher.md at gmail dot com.
I love this!! That couch is a gorgeous color, and everything just goes together so fantastically!
Lindsay, I'm sorry I didn't get to vote for you. I'm having some trouble keeping up with the contest this year. But I had to let you know that you've done a marvelous job with your place. It's lovely and cozy and not overdone. And the function is perfect. You can sit on the sofa or lay in bed and watch the TV. And your little kitchen area is so cute! I love when people don't hide the bed in a small place, because bed is one of the most important things in our life! I mean how many times are we at work, wishing we could go to bed?
Can you tell me a little about the vertical book shelf? I understand the function of going vertical in a small place, but I really don't like the looks of it. I've seen this in several homes entered in the contest. Do you like it? Does it function well? I'm trying to look at it as sculpture, but I find it an eye sore (not just here, but in general).
But overall very pleasing place. I hope to see you in the finals!
since when do books have to be all the same color? some of u folks are insane.
smart , sweet in the same time, but I'm late too vote . sorry
Hrm. I can't believe I'm the only one who feels like this is a little overcrowded. If this were my place I'd lose the armchair and pare down to one coffee table. You've done an awesome job though, very impressive.
i love how urban your place is. your furniture and accessories flow seamlessly from the windows and the view outside :)
This is a very small place and you did an excelent work. Every thing is in its place. I like that you got a lot of things but not too much you got a balanced touch and style.
I love the big windows, the bed and the eating area. I would like to see the bathroom.
Congrats this place is very comfortable. I really love it!!
I am late on seeing this space. Nice job and layout looks comfortable and flows nicely.
I would of voted for you.
I really like everything about this space! Thanks for showing your floor plan.....
This place is super cool. I really enjoy it a lot.
Very nice, especially considering that it didn't come together only after years of curating. (Not that I don't love those homes! I generally do.) Your dorky planning really paid off. Go dorks!
Do you recall the name of the blue paint?
Love! What is the name of the paint color on your walls?
Beautiful place! If you get a chance I'd also love to know the name of the blue color on the walls. I'm up to my neck in paint samples but THIS is what I need.
Love your place. Great job with the decor. Once again, I really like the color scheme, and those "coffee" tables are adorable. I just had one thought as soon as I saw your bed. Why not place a white backless bookcase to act as a divider? Forgive my two cents:)
Love your place and design. I also have a studio so I'm amaze at how you make everything works in such small space. Great job. By the way where did you find that necklace hanger? so cute*

i love your place!!! i loooooove it!! where in brooklyn is this building located? i'm looking for a studio too, and this would be a great one for me. i like how it is modern, clean, and high rise for nice view. could you please email me about the apt info(location rent price) to whitebalance0@gmail.com? I would really appreciate it! Thanks!!!
love your bed! I'm thinking about getting the white Alpine Bed from CB2 along with the sidecar dining table. I want to use the table as a desk in my bedroom.
Where can i get the coffee tables?
Brilliant!
Congrats on a beautiful apartment. I'm moving to NYC from LA next month and almost signed a lease in your building over the weekend. Instead I found a slightly larger (500 SF) studio in the financial district for rent by owner in a cool landmark condo building.
I'd love if anyone on this message board can help this downsizing west coaster figure out how to set things up.
Here's my floorplan:

And some photos of the unit as previously furnished (awful!) from the sales listing (for investors--I'll occupy regardless if sold).

Beautiful! Would love to know the paint color.
