Who Lives Here: Maggie, and her "dapper cat", Ollie Location: Los Angeles, California Size: 450 square feet
What is your favorite element of your Small & Cool home? My favorite thing about my home is the cozy atmosphere (helped substantially by some lucky thrift store and flea market treasures!). The sixties apartment lines and features fit perfect with my own mid-century aesthetic (from music to movies to design . . .). I love that when people come over they feel like they can hunker down and be at home.

What was one of the biggest challenges you faced in furnishing your Small Cool home? The most challenging thing about my apartment is the light (or lack thereof). You can see in the pictures that even in the middle of a sunny, Los Angeles day, the apartment is quite dark. I've tried to overcome that a bit by decorating and furnishing with a lot of bright colors and cheerful odds and ends.

Nice.
Warm and eclectic, with lots of stuff, but doesn't appear cluttered.
I love it, especially the colours. It feels retro in that great way.
As much as I do like your place, I said to myself, "There's NO way that could be 450 sq. ft." Indeed, if the dimensions you've given on your floor plan are correct, the overall square footage is 550 .
Very nice and cozy. Love the shower curtain- I've been looking for something I like in similar shades. Care to share where it's from?
Love the dining area especially. Never thought an old tube tv and a piano would fit in such a small space so well.
I love everything about this space. Fantastic mix of styles and bold use of colors. LOVE IT!

Looking at the floorplan, I love that Ollie has his own closet!
I think this space is gorgeous, and it would be among my favourites so far. However, as per emmelemm, I think the square footage question needs be worked out.
I dig the way the TV and computer monitor blend in without being overtly disguised by some fancy contraption or impractical placement.
Also I agree, your floor plan is somewhere around 540-550.
I love the vintage look and the blue walls and the movie stuff. It is interesting but not too cluttered. One of my favorites.
Great job, especially with the lack of light! But why no pic of Ollie?
Hi, all! Maggie here. I am so glad you noticed the square footage problem too . . . it was my first time using Sketch Up and I had no idea what my square footage was, and I knew it couldn't be correct . . . thank you!!!!! Regarding Ollie, he was in a ton of the pictures I tried to take and they were all so bad because of the lighting . . . he didn't end up making an appearance in any of the "good" photos. Wah wah! @Carrie H., surprisingly, the shower curtain is from Bed, Bath & Beyond! I never find anything there, but I'm thrilled with that shower curtain . . .
Very cute. Love the layout.
very cute space.
The dining area is really cute, and I also love the shower curtain. I wish there were a pic of the sofa area though instead of looking out onto the dining area again. Nice place!
Love this place! You can tell everything color, item and decision was carefully thought out. I bet a lot of furniture was moved around to make the perfect configuration in this small space!
So loving this! You say your style is mid century, but it feels much more eclectic and I LOVE that. There are so many differing elements but they all work great together.
It's mid-century without being too MCM. Very nice. See you at the flea market!
Love it, especially the bathroom. What are the 'pods' on the wall in pic #2? They look like those magnetic things you put spices in...
I really like the bedroom floor lamp. I keep seeing them here. Any one able to let me know where it's from or what designer it is?
Maggie here!
@LittleEdie - Excellent. Do I know you? The wall pods are these cool little egg shaped pods with gold leaf inside that screw into the wall. I got them at a great LA store called New Stone Age.
@MoMoo - The floor lamp in the bedroom is a flea market find! It's from the 1940's . . . not in excellent condition, but fine for me!
agree with 'thebean'. i couldn't believe that you could fit the large old tv and a piano into a dining room COMFORTABLY, along with the dining room table.
it feels a bit like a grandmother's house, with lots of odds and ends that have a history.
and i'm glad to see you were able to fill your wallspace without it looking cluttered. i have an issue with too many hanging pretties and not enough space to display them (so the leftovers are hanging on the inside of closets as 'back-ups' when I redecorate)
love it. very much my style. :)
I sooo wanted those purple floral Liberty of London throw pillows from Target!
I support anyone who looks at their dining room and thinks, "Do I want a sensible credenza for storing plates and tablecloths, or a huge-ass old TV and a piano?", then goes with the latter option.
I also like the use of vintage speakers as bedside tables.
Girl, you got style! And with Maureen O'Hara and Laura Nyro as design elements? A little slice of paradise.
