Who Lives Here: Paul Location: San Francisco, California Size: 480 square feet
What is your favorite element of your Small & Cool home? Definitely the amount of natural light. My last apartment was practically a basement without any windows - so finding a corner apartment with two walls of windows in the living room was a welcome change! Having so much available light is a constant source of inspiration when it comes to designing into the space; using color, object arrangements, and plants to create my perfect home.

What was one of the biggest challenges you faced in furnishing your Small Cool home? Limited space is the biggest challenge. I am a constant collector of furniture pieces, objects, paintings, etc - and find that when I do obtain a new treasure I have to then re-edit to make room. Consequently, I do have some pretty killer garage sales.

Very stylish but the photos don't give a very good sense of the space or what makes it "small/cool." Also, a wee bit of tidying would have been nice. Those messy couch cushions really bug me.
give it 2 more years and it will turn into a zoo/natural museum... just joking :p
Love the vintage paintings. May I ask where you got the deer head? I've been searching for an affordable one, but the costs are sky high. Nice job, here!
Agree with sally305, but overall, looks comfy and I bet it's especially nice in person. Wish I could see the rest, but love that deep grey. Nearly painted our bedroom that exact color, but it turns out I'm too much of a pansy.
so this is all one room except for one wall of the bedroom??? I wanna see the rest of it.
PS- Menorah!
I looooove that blue velvet couch. Also, the bright pink and green flowers against the black wall are just such a striking detail. This is a great example of a home that looks decorated while still feeling welcoming and comfortable.
taxidermy! YESSSSSS!
"PS- Menorah!"
PPS- Mezuzah!
Paul, your place is great. Its Paxton Gate-lite. lol! Seriously, how do we get on the garage-sale-notification-list?
There sure are a lot of snarky comments today. Who doesn't love fresh flowers? Weird.
I love the colors and textiles and I would love to happen upon one of those garage sales. Also, I adore blue velvet couches and would love to find a small one like that for my teeny tiny place.
I am so confused by the tastes of some of the commenters here. Why do you all think these places need to be matchy-matchy and look like hotels or designer show houses? I love this place... it is the definition of cool because there are so many unique personal items. Nothing you can get at Pottery Barn. I don't want to see what your house looks like when its styled for pictures, I want to see it the way it is used. This contest is about style and function in small spaces after all.
Paul I think you have great vintage things and that they all work really well together. It's different, personal, unique (and slightly creepy), which makes it, in my opinion, perfect!
I like what I see, but I have to agree with some of the comments: Show me more than just the living room, and straighten the couch cushions before you photograph it.
Does that white face-vase with the pink flowers shift from atop the wardrobe to under the antler head? or do you have 2 exact matching vases with the same flower arrangement?
I have to agree with pandamystery. I dream of places like this, decorated but amazingly comfortable.
Kitchen picts? Bathroom? This space sure looks bigger than 480 but I cannot tell w/o some other pictures.
This looks much larger than 480 sq. ft. You definitely have a unique style of decorating that is all your own. Kudos to you for your originality.
Holy frack, I love that gazelle. I think one thing with horns is enough for any one space though. I would also find a couple long low vintage storage pieces with DOORS to consolidate the record/book collection. The only time it is ok to display your record collection is in college and a retirement home.
P.S. If you're having sex in the living room, do you feel the need to throw a t-shirt over that gazelle's head? I would.
I like it- I do wish we could see more though. It's personal and feels lived in- not sterile or empty like a hotel suite!
I've been in this apt before and its awesome but its also hilarious that he DOES work for Pottery Barn! ahahahahaha
I love seeing photographs of actually lived-in spaces.
Your space appears comfortable and personal, in other words a great space to live in and the perfect place to visit.
The best part is that, from seeing your space, I can easily picture you as a person who will ignore all the fuss about cushions and just go on living.
(and to a certain few of you: it's okay to lighten up)
Where did you get your sofa?
I love this! Where did you get your TV armoire? We've been looking for something just like it!
Great place. May I ask where you got the white ceramic dog from? I've been seeing it here and there for months and months, I need it in my life!
I love the eclectic feel -- don't even mind the messy cushions, but please tell me that's not a real</I> stuffed animal.
superb. the black wall with the glass domes is stunning.
Thanks for all of the feedback so far!
Sally - I know what you mean regarding the photographs - it was a bit challenging to find the right angles & lighting. I have more images posted on Facebook & Flikr that show more of this space as well as the other rooms.
Terry - the deer head is actually from Z Gallery, I've had my eye on a few different heads including actual taxidermy but went with this version once I decided on the wall color.
Heather - I post notifications on Facebook when I have sales. Find me!
Absolutely love your place- even the gazelle :) If he ever needs a good home... haha, doubtful I know. Best wishes in the contest!
I love it!!! it's eclectic cool and not overdone....I neeeeeeeed that ceramic dog!!!
This is my favorite so far! I love that it has so much personality, and the plants make me want to live there!
