What is your favorite element of your Small & Cool home? I LOVE our pipe-and-board shelving unit. We shamelessly stole the idea from Morgan at The Brick House, who admitted to stealing it from a hotel in Palm Springs. It can hold a ton, and we plan to use it as a buffet for when we have friends over.

What was one of the biggest challenges you faced in furnishing your Small Cool home? For two people, we have a LOT of stuff. Even though we have more space than most, we still have more stuff than most, and we had to figure out where to put everything, especially when we have surprisingly little closet space. We have to keep reminding ourselves that storage can be vertical, too, rather than just lateral. For example, bookcases can have add-ons on top rather than to the side. Wall space can be utilized rather than buying more furniture. We're both very tall (5'10" and 6'3"), so we SHOULD be able to reach tall things…

Mysterious place. Wonder where you hid all the "stuff" , the shelves are eerily empty. However as I burn to see more you got my vote, it seems like a job well done. From what we can see.
Its pretty but I don't get a sense of your apt layout for the pictures
where did you get that cool cabinet beside the mirror?
this is my absolute favourite. hands down. when can i move in?
Like it - mirror is great. Don't see the "stuff" either which means you are really good at editing and have a "catch-all" room. Nice sized bedroom.
Hey AT - your site is bogged down by the ads it is annoying waiting for pages (or ads) to load
Yeah, I don't even know what I'm looking at in these pictures. But I like what I see. So thumbs up.
This is really gorgeous.. I just wish I could see MORE!! Do you mind sharing the sources for your rugs? I love them!!
@the boss: it looks like something similar to this Ikea hack to me: http://www.designspongeonline.com/2008/03/2008-diy-winners-4th-place.html
Wow, I really love this. You've managed to make it elegant, comfortable, sophisticated, and laid back all at once. I'm so jealous that you did the shelving; I bookmarked the original and swoon over it periodically :-)
Since I've had more than one teary-eyed friend lament their sad state of relationship affairs over cocktails at the kitchen table, I'd personally have to rethink the placement of that sign in the kitchen... perhaps you can hang it over the bed lol :-)
I love the wallpaper and the rug, but best when used in the same room together. I think your space is sexy, dark and hip.
This screams house tour!
Love your place! Hopefully we'll get to see more.
its fantastic! the cabinet beside the mirror - that picture in fact - is the most amazing! bravo!
Completely in love with that mirrr! And wondering if the cat on the shelf in the second photo is real?
want to see more!
drettagliata - the rug! or at least similar: http://www.westelm.com/products/r656/?pkey=crugs-flooring
i would love to know the source of the brown wallpaper over the fireplace. it has a deco/japanese feel to it. any ideas?
adore this space!
!! yes.
The mirror is dirty !!!
good steal!
Love what I see..and it leaves me wanting more! Also, love how Apollo the cat managed to sneak into a couple of the photos.
Would it be entirely inappropriate to say I love you?
Ditto on all comments above,
but would like to add that the coffee table/block is a handsome choice for that room.
If I had a window seat (I presume?) like that, I would want to sleep in it. Scratch that, I would make it my permanent residence and never ever want to leave it. I'm dead serious. I would be more than willing to use a bedpan if it meant that I could just stay in my lovely little window seat forever.
thumbs up b/c i like what i see and want to see more!
CAT
Thanks everyone for such great comments! We just moved in October, and we've been DYING to submit. Kinda nervous, actually...there have been some amazing entries so far.
To answer a few questions:
-Yes, the cat on the shelving unit is real. :) (He's sitting on my lap/laptop right now.)
-Rugs: B/W rug is from RugsUSA.com, the others are all eBay.
-re: the stuff--Apollo has decided he likes the sounds thinks make when they hit the floor, so we've gotten good about hiding things.
-The wallpaper over the mantle is actually that temporary stuff from Sherwin Williams. SO EASY! Apply with water, remove with water.
-A lot of our stuff is either from CL or, if you know the Bay Area, Urban Ore in Berkeley. The coffee table (which you can't tell has two hidden shelves and a drawer), mirror (which I painted), and the black and chrome chair in the kitchen all came from Urban Ore. The big gold mirror in the bedroom was CL. And yes, that jewelry tower was an IKEA hack. :)
I want a black and white chevron rug :( sigh
Here's the actual BW rug:

Apollo is an awesome name for a cat. God of all the sun he surveys from your shelving.
I love the use of pattern and contrast in your home. Especially love pic #5 - perhaps this is your bedroom? Hope to see more.
I've been looking for trash bins just like those in your breakfast nook (?), could you share the source?
Chloe--thanks! Yeah, the mirror/jewelry tower is in the bedroom. I felt a little weird taking a picture of our bed, but I wanted to represent the room somehow. We're both usually too tall for floor mirrors, but this one was perfect. And obviously HUGE.
The cans (and shelving) all came from The Container Store. We didn't actually have enough room for a regular trash can in the kitchen, and we needed extra shelving anyway, so I designed those shelves so we could fit trash/recycling cans underneath.
Thanks for the sources!! I love the ikea hack :)
We need an IKEA hack tutorial. That jewelry tower is SUPER cool. (I'm a sucker for a great IKEA hack.)
Who has the best apartment in the world? S J!
I like it in general, but everything seems really brown to me. Is that just me?

this is the hack:

great home. interesting and really different to the other entries. this is the sort of unique home i hope to come across in these contests.
Love!!! Where did you get the colorful pillow on your window seat? Good luck!
Like everything but the lamps in the first pic. Ew.
But yes, I'm intrigued and want to see the rest.
i want to see more of the space. =)
So mysterious and romantic. I love it. I want to see more as well. Are those lamps on the mantel? They look like sculpture. Good luck.
Oh I almost forgot - did you make that shelf yourself? Was The Brick House's design your inspiration? Also, I love your art.
I'd like to know the source of that pillow as well, it immediately caught my eye! Beautiful apartment, I bet Apollo loves jumping on all your shelves!
tracey (and messyjessy)--the pillow was jonathan adler from a few years ago, but i'm sure it's still around. and thanks!
peggy--we had help on the shelves, but it was a collaborative process (since we rent, i wanted to hire a pro to install them since i wanted to do minimal damage to the walls, and i didn't trust myself as much as someone who was professionally trained). the brick house was definitely the inspiration, but the measurements are better suited to our space (roughly an 8'x8' square). what's nice about ours is we added a few extra fittings so that if we wanted to eventually add another shelf or two, we could. as for the art, i shot those! i'm a professional fashion photographer, and we just picked two shots from my book we liked. we didn't want to put too many up, or otherwise, it would have felt a little too self-congratulatory. and the collage in the office is just tearsheets from magazines, since i go through so many for work anyway! and yup, those are vintage lamps on the mantle. they look like lucite "jenga" (the game) towers with bulbs on the end.
everyone has been so nice! thank you!
the mirror isn't dirty it's clearly apparition if you look closely
