Who Lives Here: Sean Location: Detroit, Michigan Size: 625 square feet
What is your favorite element of your Small & Cool home? The view of the Fisher Building is what sold me on such a small space. Having grown up in the Midwest, where space is relatively cheap, I'm not sure if I could survive a small space if not for a big view.

What was one of the biggest challenges you faced in furnishing your Small Cool home? As I live in Michigan, where many of the mid-century modern items I covet were designed and/or manufactured, I have access to lots of cool furniture. Living in 625 square feet however; I do not have space for all that I would like to own. I guess that having to edit and covet less out of necessity has been the biggest challenge but it has also been a great lesson.
Another challenge has been that a sunroom makes up about 100 square feet of my home. The sunroom is surrounded by windows so that makes it challenging to store thing with not real wall space.
Admittedly, I am fortunate to have a large office at work and very forgiving girlfriend who has made space for some of my credenzas and chairs in her home.

hmmm.. I'm not seeing a whole lot here. Can you revise pictures after an entry is submitted? I'd love to see what the bedroom and kitchen look like.
Keep calm and carry on...
Small, but covet-able. Good luck, Sean!
like what i see but no bath, kitchen or dining shots.
I like the desk!
Sean, this is such a cool space! First saw it featured over at I Am Young Detroit. I'm not really into the minimalist style, but your place is really smooth (and immaculately clean). Very surprised to see the pop of color in the bathroom, wish we could see more. I voted for you, and we're all rooting for you in the D!
Keep Calm and Carry on... again, I don't get it. Why does everyone on AT insist on making this print a showcase.
I like the tea service you have. The color or your bathroom looks great, although it would be nice to see more in the photo. Thanks for sharing!
His Keep Calm and Carry On poster is a classic with a Detroit twist. Check out the Spirit of Detroit monument image above it. The monument has a significant meaning to those of us who live here.
Sean,
I really love the desk! Thanks for including me!
If I see that poster again, I shan't keep calm.
thanks for the info about I Am Young Detroit - too bad I'm turning 40 in a couple months so I can't join! :[
Super space in the D! I love it! Proof that Detroiters still have excellent taste.
That desk is stunning! But agree that except for the bathroom, these all look like pictures of one room...?
Oh my goodness, does anyone know where you can get the Detroit version of Keep Calm and Carry On? As someone who was born and raised very near Detroit (only left due to the economy after college) I would love to get a copy of that.
Oh, and I agree, I really wish we could have gotton some pictures of the bedroom and kitchen, and some that gave a better perspective of the rooms. I like what I see, but I want to see how it all works together.
(I hope I can move back to Michigan some day once the economy picks back up, I've been gone a year and a half but still feel like the mitten is my home.)
This space does look amazing--from what I can see. But we need wider shots! I don't even know what I'm looking at in most of the photos (although I know I'd like to see more).
I actually LOVE the new keep calm w/the spirit of Detroit.
Please keep repping Detroit Sean. Beautiful space.
Thanks for the feedback everyone. I'll have to hone my photography skills.
I know that by now the 'Keep Calm' posters and variations have made the rounds but it is still an apt message for Detroiters who face a barrage of negative publicity and keep striving to improve Detroit. I actually re-purposed the original poster myself and and had them printed in Detroit.
Thanks again everyone!
Fantastic desk! Did you refinish an older desk, or did it come with that awesome brushed look?
@KIPI: LMAO!!!!!
I love pieces in this space, the desk, that chrome lamp, the tea area is great.
Are there photos of the apartment or just the items in the apartment? People keep complimenting people items. I guess to each is their own.
I though the competition was about "spaces" and whats been done with the space and freightneing as it is to say, the actual bones of the space itself. Why do I find myself saying this every year. And yes the desk looks pretty cool. No thumbs up from me however. What a shame, from the 3 inches of window I can see, it probably is a cool space.
I once had a big blowup of R. Crumb's Keep on Truckin' drawing; it made a very nice poster, and I suggest it as an alternative to Keep Calm and Carry On.
i only clicked on this link to read the inevitable diatribes against the keep calm poster. they entertain me. it's like pavlov's experiment over and over.
If only there were wider shots and not so many vignettes...
I´m with kipi...
Keep Calm Carry On... inspired.
Gorgeous furniture. Would love to see more of the space though.
I would have like to see more rooms and fewer vignettes, but I'm voting for you because you live in Detroit.
My husband is from there and when people say, "In what area near Detroit did you grow up?" he leans forward and says, "uh, Detroit."
I love it... Thanks for including your pics. Much love from another member of the "D."
Maybe *this* KC&CO poster gets a pass because of the Detroit symbolism, but I hope Apartment Therapy will institute a moratorium on this print after this. KC&CO is becoming The Scream of the aughts.
I so want a refurbished Dirty South version of this poster that says "Keep Calm and Carry One".
Any ideas?
Yes, where is the 'wow'?
I like the mix of masculinity and modernism.
And I am more tired of people hatin' on the Keep Calm poster than the poster itself. Seriously, just let it go.
Nice work Sean!
i love your desk.
@twelveindustries: Loved your response! Hear, hear!
I think it is great! Love it.
