Best Use of Space You've Ever Seen: A friend has a very small studio apartment in Paris and I actually love it for its simplicity. There are no precious objects, no designer furniture pieces, the lighting isn't very good, yet it's somehow the perfect use of space in that it has no pretensions but all the amenities. It's one of my favorite places.

Breezily naming a friends unpretentious Parisian apartment with bad lighting and no precious objects as one of your favorite places is the ULTIMATE in pretention. As is the scarf and the design store in Park Slope.

And "pretention" is found in the dictionary only slightly before "proprieter." And only slightly after "precious."
