Small Doses of Layered Pattern

Layered one on top of another, multiple patterns can sometimes be overwhelming, but if you set some limits for them, they can bring style and character to a space...

Small doses of layered pattern allow you to mix and match without investing too much time or money. A few places to consider layering patterns include the kitchen (experiment with patterned dishes and tea towels), the dining room (try out some patterned place settings), a hallway corner or nook (try wallpapering a small section), and your living room (throw pillows, stacking cushions, and blankets can have a big impact). The photos above show examples of ways to play with pattern in each of these spaces.
