Name: Isabella
Age: 8
Location: Wilsonville, Oregon
Color Inspiration: The inspiration for the color palette was Isabella's desire for a bright colorful room and my desire for it to be livable! Together we selected the beautiful paint color which reminded us both of the perfect shade of water.
Give Janell & Isabella a THUMBS UP if you think this room belongs in the finals!

Tip For Using Color: The color will look more intense on the wall than on the paint chip, so consider selecting a color a bit less vibrant than you want the color to appear. I can nearly promise you you'll end up with a color as bright and bold as you want. Another option is to select a pale wall color and go bold with the fabrics and accessories.
Colors Used: Sherwin-Williams 6478 Watery

Gorgeous & grown up. I love the chandelier & curtains. But where's her 'stuff'?
What a very sophisticated room for a little girl--it's lovely.
Gorgeous and I wish it was mine! But how is this a kid's room? Like SQ said, where's her stuff or room to play?
I think the is the shade of blue I've been looking for to pair with red, brown and white accents! Thanks. Neat room!
this is amazing, I am going to do this for me and I am 30! LOVE IT especially the blue!
so lovely and sophisticated.
I love the color in this room. I also love those curtains - where did you get them?
Definite thumbs up!
I do love the colour scheme, and it's certainly a beautiful room. It's so grown-up, though, that it makes me a little sad -- like I'm mourning the loss of Isabella's childhood.
So gorgeous, but so grown-up...where's the kid? And her stuff? It feels like a bit of a guest room.
But if that's how Isabella likes it, kudos!
This is the dream room I want for my girls. Simple beautiful.
Such a pretty room! I love the color scheme.
That's an 8 year olds' room? Man, my room is embarrassingly juvenile.
It is beautiful. I am jealous.
What a beautiful child's room. I give it a thumbs up!
Thanks for including this room in the contest! Janell
love this room!
This is quite a sophisticated room for an 8 year old.
Isabella must be very evolved, I am sure.
Lets remember that not all 8 year olds aspire to "Hot pink Barbie" consumerism. Thank God for her Mother not subjecting this child to trite and uninteresting commercial culture.
Just Beautiful, fun and original colors. LOVE the light fixture.
I wish this was my room!
This room is more grown up than my own and I'm 34 years old. Love it, it's beautiful, but I'd never peg it for a kid's room.
I really like the table at the foot of the bed. What a great narrow room idea!
if she's like me when i was 8, all her stuff is shoved under her bed!
Love it! The color of the wall is perfect.
Beautiful room!
Doesn't she bring home little treasures in her pockets every day that she then has to empty out? Doesn't she have a doll or bunny that she sleeps with? Doesn't she read any books at bedtime? Doesn't she ever bead a necklace at school or with a friend?
It's very tasteful, but it feels as impersonal as a hotel. Mind you, this is a colour contest, not a room decor contest, so my misgivings don't matter; all that matters is whether the seafoam, orangey-red and teal are a successful colour combo.
Love everything about this room. Although it is for a young girl, I'd be happy to move right in! The colors are stunning!
I love this room. It looks like a very small room though, where would you put a lot of stuff? It would totally overwhelm and clutter the room. Perhaps this little girl has a playroom? The room my four year old shares with my newborn looks very similar as far as the amount of "stuff" goes (although, not nearly as beautiful and put together). Anything not necessary to the bedroom goes in the playroom. I can't imagine what we'd do without our playroom, which is also quite small. If we didn't have that, their bedroom would be full of stuff, and we really don't own very many toys.
I've seen this gorgeous room first hand and can say; wow it's lovely. Plenty of sophisticated yet whimsical touches. Lovely color contrasts of gold, turquoise, white, rose partnered with textural contrasts throughout. There are patterning contrasts, geometric, solid, large and small scale organics yet it all blends beautifully. It is very tactile and comfortable.
What a beautiful space! I love the sophistication of the room even though it is for Isabella. My wife and I will take the same approach with our baby's room.
Very sophisticated for an 8-year-old, yes - but totally lovely. I adore the powdery blue with red accents...reminds me of Sofia Coppola's staging of Versailles in Marie Antoinette (in a very good way)!
This is a great room. I agree that it doens't look all that functional in the photo, but I'm sure it was cleaned up to show off the room, not the little girl clutter. She'll be able to grow into this room so well! I'm jealous!
Beautiful color palette! Sophisticated, but yet definitely a young girls room. Much more appealing and moving forward past the typical pink little girls room. Absolutely perfect!
Beautiful room!!!
No one would argue that this bedroom is simply gorgeous! But it does not make any sense for any 8 year old I know. The room is small to begin with and there is a full or queen bed with 2 night stands. Why the 2 night stands? And a little dish for change. Really? She has pocket change? And the markers on her desk? Don't tell me you let her have markers in there with all those gorgeous fabrics. It looks like a guest room.
it would be a beautiful room in a B&B. But for a child? Two nightstands? No playing space? no books no toys no...? So sterile it gives me chills...
i agree with mschatelaine, i see no signs of a child's life in that room. yes, it's pretty...but isn't this a child's room contest? an earlier post said that they would love it at age 30! of course! the color combo is that of an anthropologie catalog or restoration hardware catalog...pretty, yes! for an 8-year-old? no! sorry...
Is Isabella a queen or a child?
Seriously - I think people have voted for this one because they want their own room to look like this.
Nothing in this room is for a child.
(Except the few markers - and I get the impression that if she even thinks of using them in her bedroom, she's going to be punished).
Nice room for an ADULT...where's the child's room?? Sad really, no fun, no COLOUR, no kid's stuff...no imagination or creativeness for the child. I would not consider this to be a child's room at all.
Oh my gosh, when I was 8 I would have swooned dead away at the sight of this room. It's all the grown-up prettiness that an 8-year-old aspires to! It's pretty, it's private, it has a huge mirror for playing dress-up and a desk for art. Lucky Isabella...
I wonder if any of these negative, mean-spirited comments (implying a child is going to be punished for using markers, when they are laid right out there on her desk? Really?) actually know any 8-year-old girls? I see a lot of mean comments on the sites, and usually I don't say anything, but this thread utterly took me aback.
To me this looks like what Blair Waldorf (gossip girl) would have had as a younger girl.
I'm also surprised by the negative comments. I certainly clean up the clutter when I take pictures of spaces I've decorated. And you better believe if I was taking pictures of my daugthers' rooms, I'd need a shovel beforehand. But, you'd never know it if I was entering a contest!
I love this room. It's so feminine and perfect for a little princess. Isabella is a lucky girl. Janell, you did a beautiful job. The 8-year-old girls (girls of all ages) I know would feel so special if their mom designed a room that pretty for them. I love the color combination, the details and accents. Everything comes together beautifully. It's a child's room that I would see when flipping through an issue of House Beautiful.
I LOVE, LOVE this room!!! I love the colors! Why wouldn't an 8 yr old love it, too?? I happen to teach kids of all ages, and 8 yr old girls don't want their rooms looking like a baby's room! Besides, there's a desk for creative work, a HUGE beautiful mirror and girly stool for dress up...and is there anything wrong with playing outside, like riding a bike, swimming, or dancing? Certainly not! This room makes the most of its space and just happens to be tidy...why so many haters on this thread??
I think I've seen this exact room on HGTV on a decorating show. Is this the room?
It reminds me of Grace's room in the movie Annie (1982 version). I must of watched that a thousand times as a kid. The 8 year old I was would've died to sleep in this room.
And I agree, I imagine the Barbies and Carebears were tucked out of sight for the pictures.
I know I'm jumping in a bit late to this thread, but I have to agree that when I was 8,this room would have been a dream. I have two darling nieces (7 and 9), and both of them would swoon over a room like this - partly because this room is so gorgeous and partly because their mother has instilled in them parts of her own aesthetic. I suspect this is he same in Isabella's case, and there is nothing wrong with a child having sensible taste. I'm sure she has plenty of toys and imaginative little do-dads and wouldn't be whipped if she played with markers in her room. That is silliness. Bravo, Isabella's mom. Don't listen to the haters.
PS I love your blog. Found it the other day.:)
