Color Inspiration: A few things really, one we live in a railroad apartment where every room can be seen at once, so to unify all the rooms I painted the entire apt the same warm neutral with a blue ceiling and have used vintage wallpaper...

Color Inspiration continued: ...in strategic areas to give pops of color; second, the toys already provide a lot of color, mostly in the primary and secondary range, so I didn't want to compete with that by locking into a specific scheme, though I did want to unify the room. To do this I kept the main items of furniture white, and took a cue from the yellow and green in the vintage wallpaper for the other items (curtains, accessories, etc)
Tip For Using Color: Don't try too hard. Almost everything you can get for your kids has color, so take a cue from their stuff and let it flow naturally.
Colors Used: Walls: Safecoat, mixed to match B-M color, Pale Almond
Ceiling: Safecoat, custom mixed color
Wallpaper on wall: vintage trees 1960s, eBay
Wallpaper on drawers: vintage spacemen 1960s, eBay
Pattern under windows are IKEA napkins that I applied using a mixture of white glue and water

This room is amazing! I love the detail below the windows, and her play with patterns. The colors are calming, and this is a very original take on a child's room. This has been my favorite room so far!!!

Thanks for all the nice comments. The bed is a discontinued BREKKE bed from IKEA that I found on craigslist. I didn't like the drawer fronts so Bowie and I picked out some wallpaper from ebay and I put it over them. LOL Megan...the tiger is mid-pounce, but believe it or not my 3 year old loves this painting. It is by Dylan Bluestone, and actually belongs to my downstairs neighbor but we have it hanging on loan. thanks csc76....looking at the other pics, some of them are so pristine, but this is pretty much how Bs room looks, well when we put away the toys anyway.
Love it! While I love some of the other rooms, too, I dislike that people often have to get hit over the head with color before they recognize a room as colorful. It's possible to deploy bright colors subtly, as is done here, and I think it's more inventive.
It may be a bit easier to identify the right moment for an outburst, but not every conversation should be a declamation.
There's something sepia about some of these pics- is there a word for that seventies tone that our childhood pics seem to have filtered into? Anyway, the hues remind me how my own childhood seemed to be colored. That makes me wonder whether children of the fifties think of their own childhoods in black and white.

Best designed kids room on here by far! your color creates the most calm atmosphere and its also the most unforced designwise. it looks natural and flexible, like you can move things and play and make a mess and it still works.
