Color Inspiration: I've been drawn to bold yellows lately. Awhile ago, I found the comforter set on Rosie's bed on clearance at Target.com for about $15. I thought that would be a good starting point. Then, I discovered the fantastic Ferm Living 'Dotty' wallpaper.

Color Inspiration continued: Things just naturally evolved from there. The trees on the wallpaper brought in birds, the birds brought in the other colors (touches of turquoise, brown, and dark green). It was the snowball effect. I really like unlikely color combinations. I tried to reuse lots of things we already had, painting it if I needed to. The brass headboards were from my husband's grandmother, the furniture was from past nurseries form our other kids, the 'tree' was made out of a fiberglass column that was sitting in our garage for years, the pennant bunting was sewn from my hundreds of fabric scraps. I try not to buy new stuff. It forces you to get creative. Most importantly, Rosie loves her "new woom"!
Tip For Using Color: Don't be afraid! Kids love bright, exciting colors. If you're nervous, paint your walls a nice neutral, and then add punches of bolder colors. Just because you have bright colors doesn't mean it has to be shocking. Colors can be soothing.
Colors Used: We used Behr 'Baked Brie' (yummy!)on the walls from The Home Depot.
The turquoise and yellow used to paint the accent pieces were paints I already owned.

I love this color combo! The pops of turquoise are so pretty. I also really like that Rosie won't outgrow this room in a year... it has a good mix of little kid and "big girl" elements.
I absolutely love this Ferm Living paper and have been wracking my brains over where I could possibly use it! Also love the galvanized metal sconce.

Aww, I bet she DOES like her "woom"; that is one cool "woom"!
thanks!
In my top 3--this is wonderful! Color combos, accessories, wallpaper, hand-me-downs--I love it all. The branches are wonderful, as is the bird egg art piece. Bravo! Could you please describe the framed item above the little chair in the corner? Thanks.
This is in my top three as well. I love it!
SQ-the piece in the corner is actually a shadow-box with a piece of needlepoint upholstery in it. it was done by my husbands great-grandmother, and i after recovered the antique chair it was on, i couldn't bear to part with it. it just so happens that it worked in ro's room. you can see the chair here...

---Love the mini vanity!
----Love the sheer fabric over the bed.
I've been drooling over that wall paper for months now. I love to see it in use! And ditto on the bold yellows. I think I'm craving something mega cheerful these days, and this room fits the bill. Great job!
Bringing nature indoors!
The thing that I'm looking at in this room is the canopy. I've got like five photos clipped of different ways to cozify a big bed with curtains for a small girl, this was just what I was contemplating except hung from the ceiling...great to see it in practice. I wonder how much of a pull-on-it hazard this is? Has your little one tried that yet?
CUTE room! I love a room to grow into, and this is such a good example. I'll also get in the queue for issuing congrats on using that wallpaper. :)
ro has not pulled on it once. nor, has betsy, our 5-year-old who has special needs and is still in a very grabby stage. no one, even our boys (7 & 8), has really paid it any attention. because, in all honesty, i thought it was going to have to be taken down. so far, so good. and, really, it's just a sheer. if it came down, no harm, no foul. :)
LOVE the wallpaper! The turquoise and yellow, and the birdies, too. What a darling room! :)
I love this room, I want to have my room look like this.
ADORABLE!!!!!
I am so in love with this room! Vibrant, juicy colors with an awesome combo of patterns and textures - and so happy and bright. AND age appropriate. Rosie is a very lucky little girl! Would love to see your other children's rooms as well!

WOWSA!! What a gorgeous room! I think yellow is usually too much but this room is BEYOND perfect. Great job ~
