One of the biggest challenges of living in a small apartment is dealing with a small kitchen—and figuring out where to put all your stuff. Here's a solution you might not have thought of, a way to utilize a little bit of storage space you might not have realized you had. The space in question? The side of the cabinets.

This counter side of the cabinet, in a kitchen from IKEA, works particularly hard, with a bar for drying herbs, a rack for spices, hanging spots for utensils (and an iPad!), and rails for what looks like foil and plastic wrap—a handy way to keep these items within easy reach.

In this kitchen from The 2 Seasons, a towel rail + some S hooks make a handy pot rack that mounts to the side of a cabinet. (Bonus points if the posts in question are extra pretty, like these.)
