Just about any small space can be helped along by hanging a mirror. It opens up the space and reflects light around, making a cramped room feel a little spatial relief. But in a nursery, a mirror does that and so, so much more:
It's a toy. Babies are infinitely entertained by seeing themselves in the mirror. Point them out to themselves and they'll laugh and smile. So fun!
It's a tool. Putting baby to sleep by holding her over your shoulder? A mirror is a really useful way to take a peek and see if she's asleep.
It's decorative. Mirrors come in lots of shapes and sizes. Use one or a few to complement the space. That beautiful mirror in the image up top makes the room.
Have you put a mirror to use in the nursery? Have you found any other uses for one?

Shaw's Original Fir...
Which issue of Lonny is that from? Or, where'd they get that mirror?
Great mirror. Terrible placement. According to my father, a contractor, there is no safe placement for something like a mirror near a crib.
Love the mirror! But I would hate cleaning the finger prints off it!
so dangerous!! if the kid trow some toy on the mirror or the mirror fells...can you imagine???
Still trying to figure out where they got the mirror... the info is not provided in Lonny (April/May 2010).
I made a mirror very similar to the one in the picture for less than $100. I bought a 24x36" ornate gold frame from Hobby Lobby when they had a 50% sale. I spray painted the frame off-white and glued in a cheap frameless Home Depot bathroom mirror. It looks pretty great!
love the idea siska ott! i want a fancy mirror for my daughters room screwed in the wall at her level! i think she would really love it.
the above mirror looks big enough that if it were to fall (you can attach the thing to the wall ppl) it would be wedged between the crib and wall. we used a stainless steal table at work and the top was really scratched up the under side showed the reflection pretty well ( i drop stuff a lot)!
oops forgot to mention that you might be able to use a mirror that was not glass. like the flip side of stainless steal
There are plenty of unbreakable mirrors on the market. That mirror is gorgeous, and for all anyone knows, it might be acrylic. My girls love looking at there reflections, and I'm seriously thinking about putting a large acrylic mirror in their playroom.
I love this. And I think this idea is completely possible to execute safely (which might be the case here). It looks like the frame/mirror is actually resting on the floor and leaning against, not hanging on, the wall. As long as it's well secured to the wall at the top and the mirror is acrylic and not glass (like jackied302 mentioned) I think you'd be in business.
This could very well be a staged photo for the sake of the article. I wouldn't bother getting too worked up about the mirror's placement.
I love that mirror, but my first thought (like others) was: DANGER!! I would never, ever put a heavy mirror above a crib like that- you are just asking for an earthquake and disaster.
Wouldn't hang it behind my baby's crib...but I am loving this Mirror!!! I have to have it for my living room! Where is it from? Or if it was custom made, what is the name/manufacturer of the molding?
