Nicole is a regular Apartment Therapy reader who lives in a studio. She recently worked on the dining area of her small space, creating a spot for entertaining guests through creative re-use of items - nothing new was purchased to set up this space which is always a good way to go - kind to both the planet and your wallet! After eating off ottomans for the past year, I decided it was time to have a real dining space. The table is an outdoor folding table that I already owned, covered with a table cloth my mom had lying around. The chair is a roadside find that my grandfather fixed up for me. My mom and I found the silver tray at our local recycling center (it’s real silver- the things people throw away!). I have two folding chairs that match the table stored under my bed for additional seating.
Truthfully, I’m just excited to have a space in my studio apartment to entertain (a few) lunch and dinner guests. And, my boyfriend and I can now enjoy a meal together when he visits that doesn’t involve dining on the floor. (He provided the roses, and I provided breakfast – I think it was a fair trade!) But the best part by far is enjoying my morning coffee at my own “Café Nicola” -- it pretty much guarantees a good start to my day!
