We love the small space style and holiday spirit in this seasonal ad from Target. Have you seen it? It features a humble little tree being set up in a tiny but warm Manhattan apartment. From the kitchen to the ironing-board-turned-buffet, twinkle lights are aglow and anticipation is in the air:
The story culminates in a crowded but cozy small space holiday party that's simply beautiful. I know I've gained lots of inspiration and a great holiday vibe from the commercial. Watch the full thing here and let us know what you think. Do you, like us, feel the excitement and pride of successfully entertaining in a small space? We found this short ad to capture that feeling pretty well. Did you spot any good ideas or inspiring details here for small space holiday entertaining?
The song, Tiny Tree Christmas by Guster, can be downloaded here.

I love the idea of ironing board being used as a buffet! Will definitely employ it in my small place.
Love the free Holiday playlist! Was looking into the Verizon holiday commercial that features Our House by Madness / Jingle Bells mash-up and stumbled upon your post. Would anybody know about this song? It's so fitting for this time.
thanks for the stills! i saw this ad on hulu yesterday and thought of apt therapy... :)
I love commercials, and always have. My mom says I used to happily bang on the pots and pans in the kitchen during the cartoons, but make a beeline for the TV for the commercials.
This one is sweet. I love her attitude!
Oh I love this commercial! Also reminded me of A.T.
I loved this commercial too, and tried to find the song a week or so ago with no luck, thank you!
The Target near me was shopped out - not a small tree in sight. Maybe people can't afford a $200 artificial tree???
I've been waiting for you guys to feature this commercial! I love that she makes such great use of her small space. She clearly reads your blog.
(Or the commercial producers do.)
We saw this commercial one day after buying our own tree. The guy on the corner didn't have the size that I wanted and neither of us wanted to walk over to Houston to try another seller. We decided we'd tackle the purchase the next day, but walking away I noticed the smallest, saddest trees ever leaned up against Rite Aid. They were going for $5 - $15 with a stand. My fiance's attitude was "Seriously?" but I was smitten - both by the enormous savings I'd happened upon and the "Charlie Brown's Christmas" appeal of such a wonky tree. After decorating with ornaments on sale from Crate and Barrel last year, one tiny string of white fairy lights, one string of chili-lights (saved from his bachelor days) and a homemade tri-fold yellow star glued to a toilet paper roll fixed crookedly to the top we were set. Absolutely no symmetry - and the branches barely support anything. After seeing this Target commercial I felt warm, happy and proud. My guy and I looked at one another and smiled, our new dog tried to figure out what was up with the tree in the house - and I cried a little. Merry Christmas - everyone!
Oooh the ironing board buffet IS a great idea. I love enternaining in my small studio. It's so cozy and it really brings people together.
I haven't seen the commercial but I like the small Christmas tree. Accidentally, I just got back from Home Depot where I bought the smallest tree from the 4-5ft tall ones they had. I don't even know what it looks like - it was tied up, but that's fine. It will be standing on a coffee table in a corner so all I need is "one good side" only. Decorations and lights will cover whatever insufficiencies it may have.
i loved this commercial, it reminds me so much of our tiny apt. tree!
Aw, this reminds me so much of my own early days in NY. At least her cramped little studio is in Soho (notice she gets off at Prince St. on the N/R). Mine was in Siberia—E 89th St.
Thanks for noticing that crazy looking dog, EclecticDS.com!. It's freaking me out.
I'll bet that ad was only shown in large metro areas where living small is the norm.
I loooove this commercial! It looks like all her friends brought an ornament to decorate her tiny little tree. How sweet was it when they all took a picture of her next to the tree. Great post!
I thought about this website the as soon as I saw the commercial! :)
wonderfully done ad!..the little apt dweller, her crazy looking pup....and her quick and impromptu Holiday party ..looks like her first in her new diggs....with her friends coming with an ornament each! happy ad!
