Hallelujah! Church pews are excellent sources of seating for small spaces. Narrow and minimal, church pews know how to pack people in, so they're great for entryways, odd narrow spaces, the living room and round the dining table. The traditional ones without upholstery are also great for storing and displaying books, shoes and collections. Get them used, and you not only save a penny, you also buy green.

That's so funny! The first thing I thought when I saw this what that a pew would be perfect for behind a sofa. Seating for the people you don't like, book storage, landing strip, etc.
We have four of these that my church gave us for free when they were clearing out their storage room a few years ago. We have one on our front porch and the others are currently being used in our basement, but the plan is to eventually use two in a (future) bigger dining room and keep the third in our laundry room. I love them and couldn't imagine passing up such gorgeous lines!
My mom had a church pew that she got for free back in the '70s. For my entire childhood it was in the dining room, then some years ago she started using it as a sofa... Of course, it's not comfortable enough, so she mostly sits in a nearby leather recliner instead, lol. But it's beautiful!
Great idea! I see these in old antique shops sometimes & now I'm inspired to get one!
FYI, there are several of these for sale on Bloomington, Indiana's Craigslist as we speak!
LOVE. Super great here in an entry hallway or one side of a dining table.
My brother-in-law builds custom furniture from church pews including tables, lamps, shortened benches and pews: https://www.facebook.com/pages/Altered-Furniture/170732479703916
My parents have a pew that they got from my mom's childhood church/the church they got married at when they were doing some renovations. It's fairly short for a pew, I think about 7 feet. It was always used as extra seating in our family room growing up (basically only got used if we had a party) and now they use it on one side of their kitchen table in their new house.
You should see how much these things for on Kijiji in my area. People snap them up!
You know, these church pews are a real work of art. The wood work is usually very, very good. They should be preserved. One can do so much with a pew. Imagine "graffitting" one in an artistic and creative manner.
I managed to snatch up two for $80; one is 81" and the other is about a foot shorter. Funny enough they are oddly comfortable, white and with simple lines. I went to great lengths to be able to get them in our less-than-900-sq-ft apartment, including asking the next door neighbor to open her door so we could get that extra foot we needed to get them in! The longest of the two ended up on the balcony facing the woods, the other is working as our headboard/bookcase. I love them!
