In this home, large pieces -- a kitchen counter, the bed frame, the wardrobe -- are painted a glossy black which matches the glossy black floors. The result, these bulky pieces, which would normally make the space seem crowded, clastrophic even, seem to disappear, making the home feel particularly spacious.
We love that colorful or light pieces, like the dining room table or the bed seem to pop; the bed especially seems as if it's floating. It's a great trompe l'oeil trick for small spaces. Combine it with clear furniture for an especially airy look.

super smart
Way cool and surprisingly simple. I cant beleive Ive never seen this concept before...
Really clever idea. I don't think it would work quite as well with any color other than black or a really dark color though.
Glad to see that I'm not the only one who likes to make bulky furniture disappear. I did this in my last apartment bedroom, and it was such a nice effect.
Ditto, ncottrell. But I wonder how difficult it is to keep every speck of lint from showing on those black floors?!? Maybe the reflection off of the gloss finish helps?
What a great idea...although i don't love having so much black. I wonder if it'd work with lighter colors.
I liked the little dala horse in pic #4...
Dunno ... to me, all that glossy black and white says "Death Star."
Very sophisticated. Boy, if I could get away with that in my apt...
I was dubious as to the actual size of this apartment so I looked it up. It just looks so BIG. Turns out its around 650 sq ft! It is pretty amazing. Funny thing though. They're going to combine this apartment with one downstairs!
All that black in the photos works great. I wonder if it works also so well in person.
love all what's on this bed!!!!
Yes the pieces in this apartment are large, but neither the size nor the color of these pieces is the primary reason that this apartment seems large and airy. This apartment is furnished with practically NO furniture. If these photos display the entire 650sf, this apartment contains only a bed, wardrobe, dresser, dining table and chair. Pretty but certainly not practical.
Boston_Kat has a good point:
No nightstands, no sofa, no lamps, no curtains, no bookshelves or media equipment other than a laptop, one seagrass rug beneath the dining table/desk and exactly one chair, one stool and one Oriental scroll for artwork?
Yes the black on black on black makes everything sort of merge together visually, but it's the drop-dead minimalism that makes this small apartment appear spacious.
yeah I'm not a huge fan of having so much black either
my roommate would probably love it though
It looks great but I know that klutzy me would be crashing into the edges of counters etc. that I couldn't see.
This is such a great idea, and it makes the space look really impressive.
neat-O!
Love this. I am tempted to make my floors black now.
They should have a black cat.
No way aaakid, they needed it to match the computer table! (I joke)
ohhhhh to DIE for!!!
i LOVE all the black!!
there's nothing so soothing to me right now than black done WELL!
THIS space is done perfectly!
when can i move in??

love the white on black... vs the more common black on white..
