With the plethora of moving happening around us lately, there's been a lot of couch talk. And let's face it, a couch is likely to be one of the pieces you'll be throwing the most money at. Especially in a smaller space, it's probably one of the largest and most dominant pieces, besides your bed. The thought is to go safe and choose black or brown. But, as these spaces prove, sometimes it's better to go bold! (by the way, we noticed that orange is a popular choice).

I don't see many people choosing Black or Brown sofas as the "safe" option - usually its Beige or Taupe...
...but regardless of the size of your space - I wonder how many orange sofas will be viewed as "Keepers" in 10-20 years?
Mmm, I'm dying for a bright yellow/gold couch a la Lily and Marshall's on How I Met Your Mother... or a lot like this one.
I just had my custom-upholstered orange velvet sofa delivered today. I didn't go with a bright orange, though, more of a muted tone, if you can imagine it, and it has more traditional lines. Depending on what I pair it with, I can see myself keeping it for 10-15 years, since orange is a color I gravitate towards naturally, and have for the past 5 years.
I really do love orange...it's such a nice change from red!
Also, I was about to add--too hasty with the mouse, I suppose-- that orange has the same visual punch as red, without the possibility of seeming garish over time...
I love orange sofas, and also yellow ones like the CB2 parlour sofa someone linked to above (it looks gorgeous on the website.)
I think it's a nice way to add a pop of colour to a space without overwhelming it.
I have 2 slipcovers for my Ikea Kramfors before they discontinued the fabric line. I have the charcoal and the "Myrby" red... which is an orange/red... not very bright, but not boring either! I definitely prefer it over the dark grey! ^.^
I bought an orange sofa (and chair) about five years ago because I fell in love with it. I had originally planned to get one nice, basic (safe) tan sofa and instead came out of the store with an orange sofa and chair to match! At the time, I feared that I would regret the color choice after six months, but I still love my sofa as much as I did when I bought it. I know the standard advice is to buy big pieces in 'neutral' colors and then add color with accessories, but this strategy doesn't really have the same impact as a large, colored upholstered piece. The orange is such a bright, happy color to come home to. I have also found the orange to be a more versatile color to work with than I originally expected. I think if you really like color, then buying a sofa in a color you like is a good idea.
in 2008 I went a looking to replace my beige/light blue/tan/black innocuous sectional from the 1980's that came from Sears and thus had no real style to it to begin with, with something much better and had begun seeking the red leather Klippan as it's size, shape were more to my liking.
I found one at their As Is dept on sale for $324 with an extra 40% off that price so it became $195 or so and add in the shipping which became $53.04 and they delivered it by 12:30 the next day, and this was on a Saturday in November. I've loved it ever since and it works with what I already have. :-)
the their being IKEA of course and since the couch went for $500 new...
Love orange! Macys had the coolest orange leather sofa awhile back. Too bad I didn't need a sofa at that time or else I would have bought it.
Not sure how that last pic is colorful? The sofa looks grey.
