When it comes to space saving solutions, we can often take a lesson or two from Japan. The architect of this beautiful modern house took a tiny triangular lot — seemingly unable to fit anything except maybe a canoe — and created a contemporary home that looks significantly more spacious than it really is.

This Tokyo house is the work of design firm Mizuishi Architect Atelier. Housed on a lot of about 312 square feet, this three-cornered abode includes a deck, a loft play area, as well as a full bedroom, bath and office. It's the perfect example of the kind of creativity and innovation that small spaces often inspire. Perhaps more importantly, it is a reminder that beauty truly does come in all shapes and sizes -- some soaring and gigantic, some tiny and modest, some arched, some straight, and some, of course, that make a point.
