- The Pablo Tube Top Small Lamp comes in a rainbow of colors and its base leaves just the tiniest of footprints. You could even rest your cell phone in the middle while it charges. Available at Design Public for $110.
- Taking up less space than the stout Fado, this bowling pin light lets off the same warm glow, but with a cheeky sense of humor. Simply tip it on its side (or onto the floor if there's no room) to turn the light off. On sale for $19.99 from Urban Outfitters.
- The Airswitch 1 is cleverly turned on and off by a wave of the hand over the top of the lamp. Since you don't need access to a switch, it can fit in any hard to reach space, including on the floor for a bit of ambiance lighting. On sale at Lamp Lust for $89.99.
- A bit wider than the other featured lamps, but still with a diameter of only 9", the Ikea Jonsbo Ilsbo has a great gourd-like shape rolled into a diminutive 13" height. Best of all, it's only $19.99.
- At a much higher end of the price spectrum, these Castore table lamps start with a slight wisp of a base and balloon out to between 5 1/2" to 16 1/2" in diameter. Prices range from $230 to $665 from Artemide.
Perfect for a petite nightstand, these small lamps promise not to sacrifice space for style (or vice versa)...

I've been in love with the Tube Top lamp ever since I first noticed one in the 2008 Room and Board catalog.
West Elm has a cute new lamp, the mini teardrop, currently on sale for $50

the airswitch reminds me a bit of this flashlight from muji. it has a nice sleek design and a minimally integrated button.
it uses leds, there are two settings of light intensity and when you put it down it can operate as a reasonable lamp. it is the perfect small space solution for a side table lamp because if the lights are permanently out i can just grab for it!
where did my comment go?
just wanted to say the airstream reminds me of a muji flashlight i bought that i think is available in the ny stores.
sleek and minimal but no hand waving. just a nicely integrated button. when you set it down on it's face it acts as a great bedside lamp but is easily available should the house lights go out!
I used to live in an area where the utilities went out frequently during storms....one of these would've been real helpful.
I have the tube lamp and I LOVE it. Gives the perfect light and the built in dimmer is awesome.

.....> my favorite is sadly the most expesive one.
Lowe's sells a tiny, flexible mid-century modern desk lamp in a great shade of taupe for about $12. You can put a fluorescent bulb in it. It's sturdy and good looking. Not on their website unfortunately.
