Name/Age: Irene, 3 years
Location: Minneapolis, Minnesota
Family: Irene, her Mom Laura and her Dad
Room Size: 220 square feet
Division: Kid

Tip for Living Small with Kids: Storage that's kid size so kids can get out (and put away!) their own things. If you lived in your space before you had children, make sure to take a step back and look at ALL your spaces with new eyes - you might see a room has a completely different function than you thought!

Give Irene and her parents a THUMBS UP if you think this room belongs in the finals!

What was one of the biggest challenges you faced in putting together this room? Our house is about 100 years old and has a very traditional layout, we don't have a basement or any other "extra rooms" for a play room. Toys were taking over all the living space and our daughter didn't really have anywhere to play on her own. One day we realized that we could switch bedrooms with her and create a bedroom and playroom out of the master bedroom (which is the biggest room in the house.) Irene loves all things pink and fancy right now and I was happy to discover that the faux-finish caramel walls (which had been part of a Tuscan inspired master bedroom) looked great with bright pink and orange. We're so happy with the new set up - there's room for toy storage and playing. And the smaller bedroom (about 100 sq ft) works just fine for us. This master bedroom also had the worst closet ever - very deep but with a sharply sloping ceiling. That closet makes a great playhouse, though!
