Tip for Living Small with Kids: Just because it doesn't come from the children's department doesn't mean it can't be used for a child's room. Using non-baby furniture and decor in a nursery will allow it to be used for longer by your child or to be used in another part of your home as your child's needs change.

What was one of the biggest challenges you faced in putting together this room? Making a walk-in closet feel like a nursery. We thought the "room" would feel more nursery-like if it contained more than just a crib. But putting a standard crib in there would have left no room for other furniture and wouldn't have allowed us to really use the room. Luckily, we were able to fit a dresser/changing table and a crib in the nursery by getting a mini-crib and employing some careful furniture arrangment.

I love the crisp red and exposed brick. Makes the 'room' very cozy.
That is a great idea for parents short on space.
I think it's great. Why not? As for Olivia79's concern -- I'm sure the idea is that a very young child is going to be in there.....i.e., it will pretty much be in there to sleep or have its diaper changed, not to hang out, grow up, spend its childhood in there.
So, to me it makes sense -- with the door closed, it will be a cozy, dark spot very conducive to sleep - just what a baby needs!

I do this...only he never actually sleeps in there. Usually the kid winds up in the bed with me. (:

For those of you considering this option with more traditional closets (where the walls go all the way up to the ceiling) I would make sure to use a no-voc paint, air furniture out well before placing in the room, remove the closet door and put in very thin curtain instead and put a fan in the room to get maximum air circulation at all times. With the new info on SIDS I would be very cautious of a young baby sleeping in any arrangement that doesn't allow for maximum air flow.

I love the fabric over frames on the walls--what a great way to give it color w/o painting the brick--so flexible!
Just lovely. The red, black and white colors are what they say a baby can focus on the easiest.....so great choice. It's not the size of the nursery that makes a baby happy anyway...it's the size of the hearts of the parents.
Auburn - thanks it's not wallpaper, it's fabric (from IKEA) stretched across wooden frames that we made.
I know that my colicky baby would have been shrieking if she'd been faced with that wallpaper whilst in bed. Kudos to the neural-net of the kid who can handle that when they're overtired!
Yay, we picked out the same red Ikea fabric for curtains in the future nursery! I don't put quite as much stock in mood/color theory as wrenx. . .

Very cute and great use of closet space
We once had a closet this large in a rental, and I joked that it could be a separate room. I love the crib and fabric panels. Very cute. My granddaughter would love running her fingers over the texture of the bricks. I envy those with exposed brick in their homes!
I am so inspired! My husband and I are expecting our first baby this fall and are trying to make our one-bedroom apt work :). We had thought about turning one of our closets into a nursery but were not quite sure how. A few questions:
-do you own or rent your apt? We would like to take out all of the shelves, rods, etc in the closet but are not sure if we can do this to our rental.
- how long did your closet to nursery conversion take??
-where did you get your mini-crib and the great small dresser that you are using for a changing table?
-besides ventilation, is there anything else that we should take into account in terms of safety?
- finally, would love your storage solutions - looks like you have done a great job keeping everything in its place!

We own. Part of the function of the wall hangings is that they cover up the marks in the walls from where the shelves and rods were.

We did it slowly over the last few months of my pregnancy.

Mini crib is from wall mart dot com. I think you can also get it from target and babies r us. It is made by million dollar baby. Dresser is from IKEA.

Maybe temperature - assuming there is no radiator or air conditioning vent in your closet. Is the closet warmer or colder then the rest of your apartment?
