Why are we back to three pictures for small/cool? It's not enough. Not at all. I'm curious to see how the bedroom works into the layout.

SCC archives are where I go when I need inspiration for my own digs, but it's hard to really get anything out of three tiny web shots.

Still, I feel super-bad about complaining about my favorite site in the world, which I get to enjoy for completely free. So take it with a grain of salt, AT <3

Phillip, my absolute favorite part is all those tiny injections of hot, bright colors into the otherwise cool and deep color scheme.

I'm not crazy about the furniture layout in the living area--there's no chance for conversation with all the furniture facing the TV, especially with the huge lamp between the chair and sofa. The room just screams, "Hey! Come on over to the wall and watch some TV!" Very stagnant. Also, the furniture pieces don't really relate to one another. Not loving this one.

Hi, firstly, thanks for all the positive feedback from everyone. There was a couple of questions from y'all: 1) the ray guns: I've collected vintage space toys my whole life and when I moved into a smaller place, my friend who makes museum displays made this for my to showcase the toys. 2) the vintage coffee table: I bought it on ebay and it came from Italy, it is made of lucite. I am not sure of the maker. It is in 3 pieces. 3) the mushroom:its kinda a fake fur vintage footstool I bought at 'The Other Place #2' here in SF. Again, thanks to everyone for the kind words and interest.

anne in chicago, did you notice that the tv is facing the bed and not the couch? i think the layout rocks-- throw some pillows on the floor to sit on and you have the ultimate hangout session. plus, the ray gun collection is stellar!! i love it all. you must be one cool dude.

It has always been three pictures for the contests. The Flickr slide shows happen in the finals or for the non-contest time home tours.

Two photos are definitely not enough for a space so ripe with personality and just the perfect sprinkling of kitsch. If only we could see what he's done with the bedroom. I especially love the kitchen/dining island. By taking full advantage of the gorgeous natural light and views with elevated seating, Phillip creates a feeling of an entirely separate eating area -- all using minimal space. Love it.

I mostly gave this apartment a "cool" rating because of the excellent framed collection of retro ray guns. There's definitely some room for improvement - most obvious is the need for a more consistent color theme and for the furniture to be more complimentary to one another.

The kitchen rocks! However, it is not quite enough to rise above cool given the mismatch in the living area -- all the elements are there (love the table and ray guns), they just need to be sorted better.

That is a cool pad. I agree with everyone about the rayguns. Also really like the clean look of the kitchen cabinets and shelves.

This place has a really fun feel, but without sacrificing sophistication.

I like the idea of the ray guns, but the execution could be better-maybe in a shadow box. Either way, I think it's hung too high on the wall. The view is great and the bar stools are nice, but for me it lacks cohesion over all.

Love the ray-guns, what a great collection. The furniture seems to be hugging the walls though, which is a shame. The velour mushroom is fantastic, I love it :)

I work for one of the largest imagery companies in the world, and it's always nice to have something pleasing to the eye to view. The feeling of this space not only has comfort, but it also has such Barbarella meets "The Party" (speaking of great movie sets) feel to it, that I would love to join the host in this apartment and have a cocktail with that amazing view. Great taste!

i love all of the layers of texture, from the albums in the bookcase, to the building outside, to the stripes on the kitchen cabinets.

The kitchen feels warm and inviting (love the stripes on the cabinets) and would be a great place to pull up a stool. The living room feels a bit cold, however. Though I think the carpet is taupe, the floor and walls feel cold and grey (living in an often-grey city myself, I'm intimately aware of the need to warm up the inside to compensate for the grey skies outside--the geographical context of where one lives has a huge impact on how colour works, and why you can't use the same colours successfully everywhere).

I'd love to see seating set up into a conversation area, as mentioned by others. The scale of the artwork and shelving unit in front of the windows feels off to me, as well. I think that wall could carry something larger. The ray guns really add a lot of personality--you're on the right track.

I don't quite "get" that kitchen with that living area, but I like that this is a space with personality, humor and great windows/view. The ray guns are fantastic!

Your taste in decor and design is only surpassed by your taste in mixology. Kudos for making the most of a small space ala Japanese style, but how many useful appliances can you reach without getting out of bed? That is the true test of japanese efficiency.

I like what he's done architecturally, but don't care for the furnishings at all.

Ditto on the space plan and on the furnishings. But then, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. This one left me saying "No, no, no!", but it is clearly very workable. A person could function here.

Vintage strikes again! It's quirky and has some neat pieces, but I agree with others who said everything seems to be hugging the walls, probably because of the big open space in the living room. Maybe bringing the chair in the corner and the sofa further from the wall and delineating that area some more would help.

The warmth of the kitchen in that cool space is just drawing me in. I like your cabinet plants and that fan on the wood block. And your ray guns. Ray guns! Thumbs up.

I *love* the view, and the wall of ray guns is awesome. I'd tone down some of the interior color there in the living room. I think it takes away from the view out the windows, which is art in itself.

what's up with the stripes on the cabinets? i would love to know how that was accomplished! i need a relatively inexpensive solution for my crappy fake oak circa 1981 cabinets...ugh! while not losing a wood feel....

I really like this space. It seems like a place someone actually lives/hangs out in. Some of the apartments in this contest strike me as a little stale although extremely beautiful, but this one seems fun and real.

in the morning? or at the lexan table? i do like me some fruity pebbles in the morning and i do spill when i slurp so at the lexan table i could see what i dropped on the ground and go for the quicker picker upper faster and not get stains on the carpet
because no one wants ground in fruity pebbles on their shit.

I would agree on a more consitent color palette but you have some nice pieces to work with.
