The last time we moved, we noticed our movers using these belt straps to aid them in moving our larger items, like the fridge, bed and sofa. Finally found out what they're called: Forearm Forklifts. Two people can move objects up to 500 lbs without dangerous bending or back strain. A good investment for $18 for two.

they work ok, but they don't work great, it takes a lot of practice for them to work even correctly. i had seen these before and looked all over to find some of them the last time i moved.
for a short object like a couch, they work good, you can pick it up to a proper height and then walk around. but for anything taller, like in some of the photos, it's 2 woman carrying a giant chest of drawers or something like that, yeah you can lift it but you can walk. your legs just bang into whatever it is over ad over. so then you just have to shuffle your feet back and forth.
so it does help you lift things, but actually moving them around didn't go too well. don't think about stairs either. i've helped people move enough to know how to do it efficiently and all that, and we couldn't figure out how to get these to work on stairs at all.
the one thing it worked great on was mattresses. since most don't have handles it was easy to pick up and since they're skinner we could still get our legs to move somewhat normally and walk.
Saw these in SkyMall and thought them to be too...SkyMall-y (red: chintzy and ultimately unusable)
