The carpet tile company, FLOR, has had a storefront location in the past (in Santa Monica) but it was strictly for "show" - a way to let consumers know about their unusual product. They've now jumped in to the retail market feet first with their very own FLOR store, right here in Chicago! We stopped in for a sneak preview yesterday and snapped some photos of the shop while getting the scoop on the new project....
....from the president of FLOR, Greg Colando.
The new shop functions as a design studio or workshop as much as a retail location. There are samples of every FLOR tile in production, so you can see, feel and combine textures, colors and patterns to your hearts content. There is plenty of floor space to show off the product and an area has been designated just for building sample FLOR "rugs" so customers can experience their design vision firsthand and make adjustments while working with the FLOR staff.
A "design library" has been set up with various fabrics and wallcoverings to allow customers to see how the FLOR samples will work with products similar to those they may already have at home. FLOR photos from over the years will also be on hand as further inspiration.
We think the move to a in-person retail experience is a smart one. We've long been fans of the product, having seen it in person in other shops and in friends homes - the quality really comes across when you can experience the tiles firsthand. The new shop should make the FLOR shopping experience a breeze for Chicago customers.
