Last week, I was at a dinner and between the primi and secondi I heard about a new line coming this spring to Bed, Bath & Beyond. It's the latest project from one of the Apartment Therapy readers' favorite designers, Orla Kiely.
I mentioned that we'd all really LOVE a sneak peek and today, this hit my inbox. Get ready to get excited for a whole new level of access to the UK-based designer's home goods for those of us in the US...

We heard the bedding will be available in most Bed, Bath & Beyond stores starting in May. No details yet on pricing or fabric compositions, but based on the retail partner, the design Magic 8 ball says "all signs point to yes" for affordability. I can't wait to see them in person!

Super gorge! I hate Bed Bath and Beyond, but for this, I will make an exception! Perhaps with a blue 20% off coupon that never expires...

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH < --- level of excitement, very high.
I will only be excited about this if it doesn't turn into another Target/Missoni fiasco. I love Orla Kiely, but I won't be standing in line/clawing eyes out for this.
But if it's around after a few days, I'll definitely hit up BB&B!
OMG!! YEEEEEESSSSSS!!!!! Please!! I keep drooling over this wallpaper by her. Third photo down.
@ Three Acres - I'm with you. I love her stuff, but not enough to get hurt in some crazy line.
@ The Nesting Game - Totally looking for a 20% coupon! Awesome idea.
I am bored of her stuff!
I won't get too excited until I hear about the quality. Based on my experiences with the clothing line, it can go either way.
@ThreeAcres - totally agree! I almost get a little sad with all these collections coming out because I know I won't have time to sit in line for them.
Oh wow! I have an Orla purse. So excited!
crazy excited for this!!! i have missed orla since moving back from the UK!

Amazing! The other day I was regretting not buying any of her stuff for Target....hopefully I can afford the bedding! :)
Anyone know where (as in which country) it's made?
Oh mah GLOB!! Super excited! I just hope it's not extravagantly priced. Dotmaison is having a 40% off sale of Orla Kiely duvets and comes out to be a really good deal, so if I wait for the BB&B and the prices are outrageous, I'll be less than happy. There's no way I'm waiting in any lines either! lol I wonder if it will all be available to order online also. That would be nice. :)
BB&B has really kicked up their selection of high quality designer bedding, what with this, Trina Turk, and DVF Studio lines now on offer.
I'm too distracted by the bed. Anyone know where it's from or where I can find something similar?
I love Orla's prints.
Psst....although she's based in the UK, she's not a British designer, she's Irish.
I will always love that print, but the complete collection is what truly excites me. The backside of the duvet/comforter, sheets + shams. Best of all, look at the white quilt, it's embroidered with the signature design. I too hope this is well constructed, because I really want it.
I love this bedding. It is modern and colorful. Counting down the days till May.
Orla Kiely has also been collaborating with the Japanese/British Fairtrade clothing company, People Tree. They have dresses, tops, coats, bags - all made by people who've been paid and treated fairly. And none of it's in that stem print, which has been everywhere for far too long if you ask me! http://www.peopletree.co.uk/designers/orla-kiely (also check the sale section, under 'Designer > View all').
Uniglo is selling a line of spring/summer clothes by her.
Liking this very much! Lovely pics and colours. It may me thinking of the illustrations of Sol Linero. Here:

I just called two Bed Bath and Beyond stores and no one has even heard of Orla Kiely. :/ I talked to the manager also and they had never heard of the bedding coming in. Not cool!!
^Really? Hm. I am anxiously waiting for this collection to come out..I favorited this post and keep checking back! lol
ROXY72, I just called BB&B again and still no one has ever heard of Orla's new bedding line. You'd think by now, they'd at least have a meeting about it or something! I'm super bummed. I called 3 different stores and still nothing. Maybe I'll call back in a few days...
hmm, is this definitely happening? it's may 2 and there's no mention of this on bed bath & beyond's website, can't find any sign of it anywhere. wah.
I just checked their FB page and found a post that said it's arriving in June at select stores. I've been waiting... Better be at mine!
I finally saw the line! Well... the three pieces they are carrying at my store anyway. I live in a small town so perhaps in larger areas the entire line will be available for in-store purchase, but my store only had the comforter sets and two throw pillows available. I was pretty disappointed. Not only was the price point higher than I was anticipating (comforter sets - twin $149/queen $179, throw pillows - $39 each, coverlets - twin $99/queen $129/euro sham $39, and sheets - twin $79/full $89/queen $99), but the quality felt okay at best. Not to mention the two things I was most looking forward to checking out (the coverlet + the sheets) had to be ordered through an associate at the store. Total bummer.
I just saw it online, and dang- it's expensive! I should've started saving my money when I first saw this post. I hope that the products are available to touch and feel my in local store, since Kristina (above) didn't like the quality. :/
So disappointing to hear. I wonder if you can use the 20% off coupons?
I finally went to my local store, and it had the same amount of stuff as "Kristina Darling." It was a small set-up! Just 2 pillows, and comforter sets in the twin size, and the double/queen size. That's it. I could barely feel the comforter because they put security sensors at the opening of the bag. Also, the other items were available thru ordering with an associate. Too bad.
I read all of these comments about the comforter set and thought, "It can't be THAT bad. It's my very favorite print. I have to have it." I even have the handbag in this print - I'm seriously in love with it. So I figured I could forgive a not-so-wonderful-quality comforter just to have this print on my bed. WRONG! It's awful. It's actually sad. I bought the full/queen comforter set (the last one at the store, and they didn't have any of the sheets/coverlets), I put it on my bed, and within 30 seconds I noticed a snag/hole in the comforter. I looked at my cat (who was itching to get onto the bed) and realized this just wouldn't work. If you have pets who are allowed on the bed - forget it. The fabric is SO cheap and thin that their little nails will tear holes in the fabric. And the polyester filling is just bizarre - it feels so cheap and weird. I'm so sad to return it but for $144 (I used the 20% off coupon) I just couldn't stomach keeping it knowing that it'd be shredded in a matter of weeks. As my husband helped me refold the comforter into the bag it came in so I could return it, he summed it up perfectly:
"This feels like a cheap sleeping bag."
It does. It's a shame - I have tons of Orla Kiely for Target items all over the house, they're great quality and have held up with daily use, and her signature line is gorgeous - this line is just awful. As far as the other items, they only had the breakfast pillow (really cheap looking/feeling) and the other printed comforter set - no sheets or coverlets.
I'm so disappointed! I realize the line was being marketed to college kids (it was in the "dorm" section at our store and I received an email about it in reference to "back to school" items), but I don't think that's an excuse for such poor quality.
