I agree with madsarah. Not only would they be ugly in my apartment, but they'd be only marginally more usefull than a key hook/clip/bulletin board designed to hang on a wall.

Maybe this is something Martha employed while in the big house - you know, the one with the little rooms that each had its own toilet.

I also agree with madsarah. Good try, but doesn't make it. I don't regularly come home and remove stamps and pennies from my pockets, which is about all those would hold.

I would love to see some other good ideas for a "landing strip," but especially something less permanence (i.e., doesn't involve gluing to or drilling several holes into the wall). I use a natural woven basket right now for papers, but I know my husband's about at his wit's end for a place to put and find keys. Anyone have good ideas?

Carder - This idea was new to me when I stumbled upon it and I posted it here because I thought it might be of interest to some of the AT community. Thank you for your observation, but I find it valuable to share interesting ideas - old or new - instead of just "skimming off the top" of today's latest material.

Years ago in the alley next to our apt. building, we found 2 old wooden drawers, possibly from a sewing machine, :nike. Very sturdy and a nice shape. My husband uses them in the office area. Great idea!

I appreciate the post and see it as a launching pad for creative ways to make something that might work for me. Thanks for sharing.

To follow up on racheloncegentry's comment, I could see it working in a few places... maybe if you are the kind of person who cooks with your hands- kneading dough and washing dishes etc. you could have a decorative one in your kitchen for rings and stuff. I could imagine putting one in my walk-in closet where the loose change always falls out of my pockets when I take off my jeans. Even clustering an assortment of different ones on the wall near my desk to hold paper clips, post it's, binder clips etc.
I agree that in front foyer as a landing strip it may look like a soap dish bolted to the wall, but that doesn't mean the idea of repurposing the thing does not have merit in it's own right.

O boy! I knew this would bring out the Martha-haters. Poor woman just can't do anything right. So sad to see her crying all the way to the bank.

I imagine that all the fame, success, power, and buckets of money is of little consolation when compared to the low opinions of her life's work among this group who, themselves, have made such a powerful imprint on the world around them....

I like the idea but I think that the dishes Martha used are to small to hold all the stuff, at least at our place. I need a "something" that holds cellfones, coin, letters, lipsticks and everyelse I carry around....

i have a baseball glove mounted to the wall in my tiny entrance area that is holding all keys … it has at least some depth to it.

I love the soap dishes. It keeps the number of things you can dump by the door to a minimum.
