Soap Factory $99 Sale

Regional force/source for emerging art, Soap Factory hosts a blind fundraiser that promotes the value and gut check of art for its own sake. The rules: one size, one price, no names, 200+ pieces from national and local artists.

This fundraiser for Soap Factory is party lottery, part opening, all fun.

All art is signed (on back) to be revealed post-buy. Tonight's pre-sale party has fundraising tickets for $35. Friday morning all works are on display, sold or not, 9 am to noon. What is unclaimed goes for $99 and walks out with you. And last year, competition for buying was fierce.

i guess i don't get this all the way yet. so tickets to go are $35, and all the of the art is $99 a piece.

I know i'm a poor guy and not super into art buying, but it just seems kind of pricey for smallish works of art. I know it's a fundraiser and all but not something i could afford.

Hope those that do go find some good stuff.

they do something similar here at the local art school/college/now pseudo-university called ocad. it's the mystery art sale where they actually recruit almost anyone to participate but all pieces are $75 and you won't know who did it until you purchase it and turn it over.

interesting concept... it forces you to really examine if it's just a piece that you enjoy or if a name attracts you.
