For a while we were obsessed with Lush soaps and bath bombs. Our passion has cooled, but we still like their products, which are hand-made and fresh (marked with expiration dates). After testing, we found that some natural ingredients (like oatmeal scrubs) ended up clogging our drain, while others smelled great and worked wonders.
We like the fact that packaging for soaps and bars is minimal, and we highly recommend the aptly named Therapy Massage Bar. If you're into baths, we suggest the Sex Bomb (shown) and Butterball Bath Ballistics.
One good thing about the opening of Macy's was the inclusion of in-store Lush apothecaries. Check out Lush online or at one of their Chicago locations for more information.

Love LUSH. I get tons of compliments on my hair color, which I do myself using their Caca Rouge hair henna. A bit tedious to do, but no chemicals, natural, looks great, and about $20 for a full year!
Also love the bath bombs (except for those ones with the chunky bits, like dried flowers, in them), Flying Fox, and Karma.
Loathe Lush. The stink of their products is stomach churning. Can't imagine why anyone would shop there.
Wow - to wildly different opinions! I'm siding w/ OliviaLeigh on this one. I'm in Philly and I love Lush. I use the Caca Brun hair color and love it - despite the smell of dirt that lingers for a few days. My fave product, though, is the Silky Underwear powder. Smells great and feels nice, too!
I love the scent of the therapy massage bar. Plus, it isn't as messy as oil.
i see that they use sodium laureth sulfate - not good. i won't buy anything with that in it. it dries you out - and not just your skin.
I love LUSH. Some of their products are not-so great, but others are utterly fantastic. I love shampoo bars, and I am a long haired person. It saved my hair, my hair started growing again after six years of refusing to grow an inch.
I like the Bohemian soap in summer and Karma in the winter. They both add just the amount of scent I want in the bathroom for each season.
I liked Lush for a while: I got their shampoo bars etc. But their lip balm totally disappointed me, as did their powder, which smelled disgusting!
i use sodium laureth sulfate at work all the time. it works wonders on my polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis.
all kidding aside, i'm very fussy about stinky soap, but this article, the comments, and a friend's raves have persuaded me to stop by the philly location sometime soon.
Their Coal Face soap is the only thing that has ever worked to clear up my acne, EVER. I don't know about the rest of their teenagery poofy perfumey products, but the Coal Face made me an absolute believer.
huge fan of the bath bomb with cocoa butter in it (forget the name, but it's deelish), plus "buffy the backside slayer" (an exfoliating cocoa butter bar) makes me laugh every time i use it. but yes, the chemicals bug me too and it seems like it would be easy enough to follow through on their "natural" claims.....
Floating Island is my fave - a soft, milky buttery bath 'melt' - not too overpowering but softens up the water nicely. THey say to use one in a bath but at $8 a pop - no way Jose. I break it up with a hammer and store it in a nice jar, then sprinkle some in the tub. I miss having baths. Its too hot.
