Urban dwellers know all too well the experience of falling in love with a sofa only to realize that it won’t fit through a smaller than usual doorway or up a narrow, winding staircase. For those of you in Boston, you can head to Bowl & Board (in Brookline & Somerville) or Boss Furniture (West Roxbury) to try out these sofas that come apart and then get reassembled…
Divon makes these very handy modular couches that break down into small enough pieces to fit through any obstacles. The website claims that, despite being able to come apart in pieces, the quality of their steel structure sofas exceeds that of a standard couch. We have a friend who has a Divon and we can vouch for its comfort and quality!

The sofas are available in regular sofas, sleepers (4 sizes: chair and a half, love seat, apartment sofa, and queen) and sectionals. There are a number of leg styles and fabric finishes to choose from. So don’t give up on your quest for a good looking, solid quality sofa that will fit through the door of your 3rd floor walk-up!
Has anyone had experience with one of these Divon sofas?

Oh, man, I'm so excited to have an AT Boston blogger! Thanks, Kyle--I'm on the hunt for a new couch and had forgotten about Bowl and Board in my Ikea hypnosis.
I posted a while back when I ran across an article where someone was having trouble finding sofas and living room furniture to fit through tight spaces. I work with these spaces every day as I design rental condos. I have found a company called Simplicity Sofas http://www.simplicitysofas.com that is the best. I have not had a space yet that I could not fit their apartment sofa or even their full size sofa in. They arrive unassembled and take 15 minutes to put together and look showroom quality. The solid wood frames have a lifetime warranty. Check them out. They sell online. My clients are very pleased with them.
I would love to know about the price range. I had the heartbreak of a sofa not fitting earlier this year in my awkward JP hallway. I had to downgrade from IKEA to a futon, it was depressing.
May just head to B&B later to inquire about price.
Can't wait to have a permanent place one day. Everytime I buy something new I have to ask: "Do you really want to have to pick this up, put it in a truck, and move it every year"
I am looking for someone who lives in the Boston, NYC, Rhode Island area to comment on the comfort of the Divon sofas. I live in the mid-west where these are not sold and have a house with a poorly designed basement and cannot fit regular sofas through my doorway and stairwell. I really wanted the Pearse down filled cushion sofa from Pottery barn, but had to give up that dream. I have looked at Ikea, but am not finding what I want in a style that will fit. I am now evaluating furniture that can be assembled and have only been able to view on the web Divon, simplicity sofas and one other brand that didn't appeal. If someone could give me a comparison of comfort to my baseline of the Pearse, I would greatly appreciate it. I don't want to spend money and have it be uncomfortable. I am looking for comfort.
Thanks
I own property in Boston, and have purchased these modular sofas from Bowl & Board. I put them in all of my top floor apartments for my tenants. I'm putting sleep sofas in 4th floor beacon hill, and North end apartments ! ! ! These are the "real deal" solid frames, gar. for life, and very firm cushions, with some great fab's to choose from.
I got my sofa in less than 2 weeks, delivered, and assembled........beats IKEA crap. Not sure where their made, i think B&B buys mostly local stuff.
I moved to New York and found this sofa at:

When they delivered, they had to take the arm out to get it into my room. It's very comfortable couch.
I love it!!!
