Of all the trends that have reached a feverish pitch over the past few years, relaxed global is my favorite. Despite it's popularity, the thousand variations keep it from looking tired. In the bedroom, in particular, it can set just the right balance between calm and interesting.
When mixed against a muted backdrop and/or combined with a few rustic pieces, globally inspired prints (Moroccan and Indian have been among the most popular in recent trends) add the perfect amount of excitement into a serene bedroom. Just remember, a few accents in the form of pillows or throws can go a long way. Restraint will also keep a global leaning room from feeling too theme-y or cliche.
Of course nothing beats actually visiting
the homeland responsible for beautiful ethnic prints. However, with the trend continuing to boom, there are plenty of stateside retail options while you save up for your next trip around the world. For beautiful block printed textiles with timeless appeal, Les Indiennes
and John Robshaw
are hard to beat. However, even mainstream retailers like West Elm
and Urban Outfitters
are offering handmade ethnic wares.
What are your favorite finds in the global craze?
