The ability to carry huge chunks of your music collection anywhere you go is one of the big attractions of an iPod, but what good is that portability if you can't share your music? With the season of BBQs, picnics and pool parties upon us, battery-operated iPod speakers are an attractive purchase, but batteries can get expensive, and don't do much for the environment. The solution? Solar powered iPod speakers.

Billed as "the first of its kind", this iPod speaker from Hammacher Schlemmer runs off a rechargeable lithium battery that stores solar energy collected by the retractable solar panel. This rugged unit is designed to cushion your iPod from harm- the body is rubberized, and when the solar panel is closed, its IPX-4 waterproof rating protects your iPod poolside. This unit features two 5-watt, full range speakers, a headphone jack and input line, and works with most iPods, iPhones, and MP3 players. Weighing in at only 3.75 lbs, this speaker can be connected to AC power, and requires three hours of solar charging to power one hour of use.
