In my head I sometimes make a list, à la Amelie, of particular small activities and experiences that I do and do not like. One thing that figures on the former half is related to the satisfying but often time-intensive task of painting.
I get so much satisfaction from peeling off blue painter's tape from around baseboards, et cetera — so much so that I can be pretty impatient about removing it. Seeing a whole painting project completed feels great, but I feel especially pleased in those moments when I first see that the tape has helped me make a nice, clean line. It makes the extra time spent applying it extra worthwhile.
Is there a similarly small but satisfying act that you enjoy in or around your home?
