Here's something that wouldn't have occurred to me: a piano painted to match the wall. I came across it on the website for design firm Incorporated and was transfixed.
I initially disliked it, mostly because I have an aversion to anything that's matchy matchy. But then I waffled… it is a smart way to elongate the space. And it looks cheerful with the canaries on top. Then I started imagining other items that could be painted to match walls — consoles, benches, old wooden chairs. Now I think it's clever.
What do you think? Is this a do or don't? Does it depend on the context? For example, I could see it working well on a table in a small entryway, but maybe not on an oversized dresser in a bedroom. Is it just a gimmick? Please share your opinion below.

Hmmmm. if the piano is worth playing, it should probably not be painted. but that being said, this one time, in this one space, I don't hate it.
I am a piano lover- and have a big grand in my home, and had that same size piano in all my apartments.
I think it's worth showing off- instead of camouflaging. But then again, I play my piano almost daily- and find great satisfaction out of playing.
and WOW- talk about a HUGE place- Follow the link, and look at all the other amazing ideas they have- with such a master carpenter and huge budget like it appears they have- they can paint anything any hue they wish.... have them come redo my house with fun little niches- and playrooms, and bunk-beds- and trees- and make my whole house totally crazy and fun.
This was popular in the 1960s. I remember my mother telling me about someone who wanted to paint her piano green to match the walls, in the "new style", and was outvoted by the family who thought it would ruin the sound.
There's a new trend for cities to place pianos in public spaces, for anyone to play: train stations, parks. Most of these seem to be wildly painted.
I'm with JDAD on this one...there's something sacred about a piano..
A piano to blend into your walls? How about we just paint your poodle, all of your plants, the art on your walls, and maybe your toddler as well. Some things should be left in their pure form as they are..
That being said.. a LCD LED TV that would blend into the walls, unless being used, would be fantastic.
If it's a 50-year-old junker that you barely use, then why the hell not camouflage it. If it's precious to you in any way, show that sucker off!
I'd like it better in off white. The fact that it's painted doesn't bother me, but the choice in color doesn't work for me.
well I really think it depends on the color I'm not feeling this shade of blue ( then again you really have to see the rest of the space )but I think this is a really cool Idea or have the piano in it's original color and the seat painted in a lighter or darker shade....could be interesting. The structural playhouse and beds for their children are amazing.
Ya…the idea is completely different but sorry to say the idea is surely a big NO to me. I can never even think of painting my piano blue...yakky...just to match the wall color or extend the space of the room! I love my piano and I am happy with the color that it’s painted with.
