Name: Sonia & Mike
Location: Chicago
The highest compliment we have received regarding our apartment came from our dog walker. She described her route--how she would go from house to house, and literally see the same piece of artwork over and over again, and she really liked our house because she'd never seen anything like it! We love books (Mike has all of the real literature, my books are all art books), patterns, and pop art.
To us, things that look new are so boring! It was our challenge to turn an open loft into a cozy, quaint environment. To make concrete comfortable, we filled it with pieces that have integrity, history, curiosity and memories. Oriental rugs, 70's replica wallpaper, an old family trunk, flat files, and collections of our favorite things like matches from all of the places we've been, pillboxes, legos and shoes.
Thanks, Sonia & Mike!

I like the idea of hanging a group of paper lamps from open ducts. I have a similar duct that bisects a huge living room that has no overhead lighting. I think the only problem would be how I would get them up there...
Sonia and Mike,
I like how you actually have a magazine rack in the bathroom! That makes so much sense for a place where so much reading takes place. :)
This is a beautiful house with obvious style, but I find the comment about the artwork funny because the first thing that caught my eye in the opening image is the "keep calm and carry on" image, which is everywhere. So I guess it just goes to show that "originality" is subjective...
This looks like a very spacious and cozy home to me. I love the bathroom, and the framed stars and stripes.
Ditto, yiyehtov! Not snarking, just kind of funny.
You took the words right out of my mind, yiyehtov! I loved it the first, oh, 50 times I saw it... now it seems like I see that same print in EVERY house tour!
I was thinking the same thing... "keep calm and carry on" has been going strong for a good 2 or 3 years now. Someone made some serious money off of that print.
That bookcase is fantastic. Where was it purchased, if you don't mind me asking?
The living room is really gorgeous. I love the bookcases, they really define the space. Where can I get a chandelier like that? It's amazing.
I wasn't attracted to the first picture (and I was curious how many people would comment on the Keep Calm poster) but I really like all the other pictures of the home. The second picture of the living area (with the windows) is my favorite, it looks really sophisticated and relaxed.
love the rocker, where's it from?
where is the dog?
and there are so many thing in the first picture that you see in quite a few houses i.e. chesterfield sofa, cast piggy bank, the juxtaposition of modern and ornate...
I actually like the wooden seat on the modern toilet. :D The wallpaper in the bathroom is beautiful and the framed antique American flag is cool.
House tour please!
I love the living room area, I just want to have a glass of wine there.
Second the house tour motion...I want to see how it's put together. More detail!
I love the bedroom!
The Keep Calm and Carry On poster is only common to people like us, who peruse design blogs daily.
I agree with bluemamie... regular people have no idea that "Keep Calm Carry On" posters are "out". But besides that... I love this space. Your lighting choices are phenomenal.. I especially love that you put a crystal chandelier over the living space hanging from the exposed pipes (I have a sweet spot for crystal chandeliers). I love the wallpaper in the bathroom - very bold and it works! Pretty much every space looks like it was carefully edited and curated - you've done an amazing job!

Love the mirrors in the first and third pictures! Where are they from?
I don't think it is possible for a loft to be "quaint".
This home is tastefully decorated but honestly I don't like any of the furnishings..too contempo for me.
Oh, and I fogot to mention the flag...I don't think flags of any type should be part of ones interior decor ....
Ashbadger: The rocker looks like an Eero Aarnio Rocker: http://www.finnishdesignshop.com/keinu-rocking-chair-p-1710.html?language=&country=
I love almost everything about this place except the bathroom. It looks like half old-fogey doctor's office, half contempo california. Just plain strange. The light and the rocker though are beautiful.
I think I'm the only- or one of very few people who Doesn't Like this at all!!!
I would hesitate before writing a negative comment, it's like visiting someone and telling them negative things about their place, of which they are so proud. But.. I just decided to say it... I don't like most of the items here. Those round carpets are Bad Taste.
Mike 1234: I think the only flag I wouldn't mind seeing is Jasper John's.
Don't count me in for the tour.
Does anyone know where they found those bookshelves? They are gorgeous
your place is lovely - the lighting fixtures, the glass block, the bookcases. I've been looking for bookcases for so long that are taller than 72". Where did you find these lovely ones?
Hi All- this is my apt--
the bookcases are from 57th St bookcase:
