Sony has released version 2.20 of its PlayStation 3 firmware which might just give people a reason to buy the console for something other than games... Since HD DVD is basically out of the 'picture' now and Blu-Ray has taken center stage, the new question is "Which Blu-ray player should I get?"...
This is a seriously complicated issue, but without going into too much detail; when you consider that there are a couple different versions of Blu-Ray out there and some players dont enable all features from both versions, it can be a real pain to find the correct player.
Sooooo, why not get a [quite designery-looking] PS3 and just get updates from the interwebs when they are made available? The PS3 is an internet capable machine and as is being announced right now; you can simply download new usability to your player as new features are introduced on the discs themselves. The new version (aka 2.0) enables a little something called BD-LIVE which is basically a way to access internet content for the movies you watch... see the future yet?
