Do you know where your passport is? Soon enough, it might not matter. De La Rue, the world's largest passport producer, is working on a paperless passport that's stored on your smartphone.

To protect passports from being copied or forged, digital versions would require updated security features on your phone to allow it to be transmitted to a reader without being visible on the screen like a boarding pass QR code.

You can already take a selfie as your passport pic, and Australia is testing cloud-based passports, so this fully paperless option is the next step in digital travel solutions.
