Name: Sophie (3)
Location: Clementi, Singapore
Sophie' s room is inspired by her deep love for books and reading. We just moved back to Singapore from Ann Arbor, Michigan and even though we didn't bring any furniture back, we carted back boxes of books, including three full boxes just of Sophie's.
I got the idea to put books as the central focus of Sophie's room from Jane Mount's children's books spine portraits, particularly her Ideal Bookshelf 1, which I bought off 20x200. I fell in love with the print the moment I saw it because it features so many books that we already had in Sophie's collection. Sophie is always thrilled to look at it because she recognizes so many of her books just from the spines alone.
It's framed atop a display bookcase that we also brought back with us from Michigan. We felt it was important that Sophie have a display bookcase so that she can see the book covers with ease when she picks the books she wants us to read to her. We rotate the books weekly so other books get a chance to be picked as well.
Initially, when we first started buying books with book jackets, I found them such a bother and Sophie would always pull them out anyway. But then I started saving the book jackets of books that Sophie really enjoys reading and got the idea to frame them as wall art. The frames are just simple and affordable NYTTJA ones from Ikea.
The Madeline books are a perennial favorite in our house and the doll was a gift from my sister to Sophie on her second birthday. It's found the perfect home in Sophie's new room.
Lovely - thanks Serene!
