Finally, there's a bit of sunshine here in the Midwest and we can throw open a window or two without freezing. While I already have a pretty ceramic windchime in my entryway, the cool breezes circulating the living room make me want to hang up one of the sophisticated, artful mobiles that have become so popular lately.
Mobiles are a wonderful way to add texture and depth to a room and to creatively fill empty spaces. While many mobiles look great solo, you can also pair them with art or hang them above a beloved piece of furniture, like a chair or end table, to make a statement.
1. The graceful lines and varied copper hues of the Cascade mobile would look lovely in an organic modern home. On sale for $337 (normally $675) at Design Within Reach.
2. A hip, geometric option from Artecnica. Coming soon.
3. Drifting leaves bring nature indoors on this Mora Mobile. $138 at Schmitt Design
4. Bright, multicolored stars to brighten up neutral spaces. $42 at The StarCraft's Etsy shop
5. The muted palette of this Balanchine mobile is calming and chic. $75 at Frazier & Wing.

Any information on the mobile in the first picture? The desktop one? :)
I very much like the multi-point star mobile. Pretty!
Nevermind, it's by the same artist and is available at DWR as well:

The star mobile brings back memories of having to (learn then) teach that technique for a workshop at my library! There were decent instructions (German Paper Stars) on the net including some at HGTV's web site which I assume might still be available -- so you could make your own, customized for your decor!
They aren't hard although they are a bit finicky, and you can use ribbon to make them, so you could get interesting effects that way. (I am never going to teach it again, though -- it's harder to get other people to do the steps correctly than to do it yourself, but still, it took a few tries for me to really get it...)
Since this post is on mobiles, can anyone tell me where the mobile in the bedroom of the recently posted orange house renovation is from? Lots of people have been asking besides me.
They'd also add color, sparkle, and movement to a dull room corner that's out of traffic. They can be made for indoors or outdoors by using different materials in different sizes. I've seen DIY-inspiring, fanciful, eye-popping ones for garden use sold at arts and crafts street fairs.
The first one is gorgeous!
@Texaninexile I've been on a mobile search, and I remember seeing that one for sale. I think I came upon it when I searched Apartment Therapy for "mobiles" and clicked to it from one of the previous posts on the subject.
The StarCraft mobiles are wonderful. Incredibly well made and beautiful.
Unabridged, thank you! I've asked this question 3 times in the last week on different relevant posts! I'll try the search and see if I can find it.
Okay, so I just searched apartment therapy for mobiles, Unabridged, and came up with nuthin'. Any tips for finding it?
